Joelle Provost: Window into the Finite

Description

Joelle Provost – Window into the Finite

📍 Uzay Gallery

📅 Thursday, July 20 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Guests gathered at Uzay Gallery for an intimate evening exploring the art of Joelle Provost. The event featured a talk by the artist herself, sharing insight into her work and the philosophies behind it. The evening continued with poetry readings by Liz Cahill and Paul Reginato, followed by a moving musical performance by Chris Portka. Light refreshments were served, and donations were welcomed to support the event and honor the contributions of the musical guest—though no one was turned away for lack of funds.

A Window into the Finite

Joelle’s paintings, created primarily on upcycled canvas with repurposed paints, invited reflection on interconnection and the finite nature of life in an age of diminishing resources.

As Joelle expressed in her artist statement:

“We seem to confuse our places of worship. Before anything else, there was water, there were trees, there were plants and animals. All of which could be deemed as having spiritual value. Forests were nature’s first cathedrals.”

Her words and works encouraged attendees to contemplate the soul of the natural world, the impact of consumption, and how reverence for the finite might inspire a more habitable and harmonious future.
