Alvar Jacomet’s Textures of San Francisco marks Decentered Studio’s Debut Show

Alvar Jacomet brings his textured paintings to San Francisco's newest community gallery. 

Decentered Arts is proud to launch our new gallery program at **Decentered Studio** by featuring the work of **Alvar Jacomet** (b. 1995, Los Angeles, California), an American-Argentinian figurative painter whose work transforms the familiar architecture of San Francisco into striking new forms. His show, Textures of San Francisco is the first to deck our walls.
Working primarily in acrylic, Alvar builds depth and dimension into his paintings with unexpected materials such as household objects, construction caulking, and textured surfaces that echo the city’s layered histories. His main subject matter often centers on San Francisco’s Victorian architecture, but through abstraction, distortion, and recomposition, his work becomes something more: an exploration of the city’s fragility and its constant transformation.
Alvar’s work has been exhibited at the **De Young Museum**, as well as at numerous Bay Area spaces including **Mothbelly Gallery** and **Strike Slip Gallery**. We are honored to present his work as the first featured artist at **Decentered Studio**, continuing a dialogue between local artists and the changing city we call home.

### Q&A

Q: What draws you to San Francisco’s Victorian architecture?
A: I think the Victorian’s facade has a very lego-esque geometry to it. That’s how they were built originally, you’d select this or that unique piece of molding and they’d be attached together. Using photoshop, I crop up the houses into shapes I find interesting, and then collage them together. I also just think they’re also very fun to look at, you can catch little stories of people’s lives from a walk past their window, or there may be a cat judging you. 

Q: What story about San Francisco do you hope your paintings tell?
A: I like to reflect on how we give this city so much permanence as it currently is, even though it’s still so young and sitting on a giant faultline. All of this while leading in so many industries with increasingly intangible but global influence and power. 

Q: How has living and working in San Francisco shaped your perspective as an artist?
A: The architecture has definitely shaped my perspective for several years now. It’s also where I found a painting teacher that worked for me and also gave me so much momentum to work from. Those 2 things have really been the foundation for my art career so far. 

Q: What makes SF’s art scene unique vs. other cities? 
A:  It’s a teeny-tiny city so you end up meeting friends of friends at all the art functions and communities can grow and combine with others very quickly. The community is also very receptive to it, you can find wallspace in all sorts of local businesses if you look for it.

_“We are always in dialogue with the built environment, negotiating the tension between the enduring and the ephemeral. My current body of work explores this tension, seeking to capture the dynamic interplay between the built environment and its slow but inexorable changes.”_
Over the past three years, Alvar has developed a body of work that disassembles and reimagines San Francisco’s iconic architectural motifs. By collecting modular elements—often drawn from the bay windows and ornate façades of Victorian homes—he rebuilds them into new landscapes and narratives. Windows become story frames; warped lines reveal the pressures of time. By incorporating construction materials like caulking, the city’s unstable geography seeps into each canvas, making the structures feel both permanent and precarious.

### **Curator’s Note**
Decentered’s previous visual art show took place at Uzay Gallery. _T[he Journey “Home”](https://decentered.org/events/2025-06-06-the-journey-home-maya-tohidi)_[ by Maya Tohidi](https://decentered.org/events/2025-06-06-the-journey-home-maya-tohidi), was a deliberate and heartfelt farewell to both Uzay Gallery and The Center SF. At that moment, Maya and I were each losing homes that had shaped our daily lives: she was displaced from The Center’s residence, and I was being displaced from Uzay Gallery, a Mission live/work space occupied by creatives since the 1990s, after five years as master tenant. The ripple effects were enormous, nearly 30 people were displaced between both residences and The Center SF tea bar, which had long hosted our open mic, closed shortly after, leaving a massive void in the community. _The Journey “Home”_ became both a lament for what was lost and a love letter to these spaces and their people.
Through luck, persistence, and the generosity of the community, we were able to open Decentered Studio, a new space where art and community could once again converge. When we first encountered Alvar’s work at [The Faight Collective](https://www.thefaight.com/)’s creative lounge—the same place where our open mic found refuge after The Center’s closure—we immediately knew he was the right artist to inaugurate this chapter. His show_ Textures of San Francisco_, with its layered reflections on homes, architecture, and transformation, felt like the natural bridge between what we had lost and what we were building anew.
Maya’s show closed one door with tenderness and grief; Alvar’s opens another with resilience and gratitude. Together they bookend a difficult transition, carrying us from displacement to renewal. Decentered Studio is our new home, and we’re honored to break it in with Alvar’s vision. A reminder that while spaces shift, our community endures and remakes itself.

This is a collection of short works by Decentered Arts members. Over the past year, Decentered Arts has grown from a small group of friends to a community of artists. This anthology is a collection of short works by members of the community. Writers Group is a weekly gathering of poets, writers, and artists. It's a space for people to share their work, get feedback, and support each other.

On December 6, 2025, Decentered Studio will light up with FlamenComedy, a lively stand-up showcase bringing fire, laughter, and holiday-season warmth to SoMa.

The night will be hosted by Tony Sparks — the legendary “Godfather of Bay Area Stand-Up” — and will feature the unstoppable energy of CarOlé Flamenco, joined by a lineup of sharp, hilarious comedians and a surprise headliner. Together, they’ll turn the studio into a cozy pocket of joy, quick wit, and good company.

Guests will settle in for an evening of hot jokes, festive vibes, and community connection — the perfect way to kick off December with humor and heat at Decentered Arts.


FlamenComedy Stand-Up Comedy Showcase

FlamenComedy brings Tony Sparks, CarOlé Flamenco, and a surprise lineup to Decentered Studio for a warm, laughter-filled December night.

On December 6, 2025, Decentered Studio will open its doors for DIY Handmade Herbal Gifts for the Holidays and Winter, a cozy hands-on workshop led by herbalist and educator Crystal Marie Higgins.

Crystal will guide participants through the heartwarming craft of kitchen herbalism, teaching how to create fragrant herbal salves infused with body oils, cacao and shea butters, and beeswax. She will also lead the group in blending personalized herbal teas designed to soothe stress, support digestion, and nourish the body through the winter season.

Guests will mix, melt, blend, and smell their way through an afternoon of plant magic—leaving with a healing salve, a custom tea blend, and the recipes to recreate them at home or gift to loved ones.

Crystal’s classes emphasize accessible, ancestral herbal wisdom and the joy of reconnecting with plants as everyday allies. This workshop will invite participants to slow down, craft with intention, and rediscover the simple healing power of herbs.

On December 03, 2025, Decentered Studio will open its doors for a grounding Yoga Class for Creatives and Artists led by Gabi Gazzola, a Brazilian yoga therapist, Pranic Healing master, and best-selling author known for her integrative, compassionate approach to mind–body healing.

In this gentle yet powerful session, Gabi will guide participants through a traditional yoga practice rooted in breath, alignment, and presence. The class will unfold slowly and mindfully, inviting everyone to move with intention, hold postures with awareness, and explore meditation as a pathway to inner stillness.

Drawing on wisdom she gained teaching across five continents, Gabi will weave physical postures, breathwork, and energy awareness to support both body and spirit.

On December 1, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted a cozy Craft n’ Chill, inviting everyone to step away from their screens and spend a few hours creating by hand. Guests gathered around shared tables filled with paints, paper, yarn, fabric, tarot decks, embossing tools, and more—free to craft holiday cards, knit gifts, sew small treasures, or make heartfelt presents for loved ones ahead of Thanksgiving. Whether participants brought their own hobbies or explored new ones with the studio’s supplies, the evening unfolded as a relaxed, communal hobby hang where people created, chatted, and reconnected with the joy of making things by hand. Those interested in getting more involved were welcomed to co-host or volunteer at future sessions.


Craft n' Chill

Craft n’ Chill invited everyone to unwind, get creative, and make handmade holiday gifts together at Decentered Studio on December 1.

The session took place on November 24, 2025, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Decentered Studio. All were welcome — no experience necessary — and, as always, the event was free.


Songwriters Group 

Songwriters gathered at Decentered Studio for a free workshop led by Ariel O of The Fancy Monkeys, open to all.

On November 22, 2026, Decentered Studio hosted the inaugural Sincere Jams salon—a late-night gathering of curious minds, soft floors, and expansive sound. Guided by the experimental music collective Machines of Loving Grace, the evening unfolded as an open jam where anyone could step into the pocket and explore. Guests drifted between conversations, improvisation, and the inviting hum of instruments, with drinks and snacks available at the DCA bar. In true Decentered fashion, shoes came off, creativity opened up, and the studio became a portal for shared play and sonic experimentation.


Sincere Jams 

Sincere Jams brought a late-night salon of music, play, and open improvisation led by Machines of Loving Grace at Decentered Studio.

On Wednesday, November 19, Decentered Arts Studio welcomed a pulse of Spanish heat: CarOlé Flamenco’s Master Workshop (7:00–8:00 PM, Decentered Studio, 1175 Folsom St).

Ms. CarOlé Flamenco — a fifth-generation flamenco and Spanish dancer and director of Flamenco Spanish Dance Theatre of América — led the room through the essentials: posture and body alignment, footwork and rhythmic compás, and the cultural history that gives each step its meaning.

Beginners and curious movers learned technique, felt the music, and broke a sweat — all while tracing the lineage and emotion that make flamenco a living art. Participants came in clothes they could move in — and left with new steps, a louder heartbeat, and a deeper taste of flamenco.


CarOlé Flamenco’s Master Flamenco Workshop

Participants learned flamenco footwork, posture, and compás with fifth-generation maestro CarOlé — beginners were welcomed to feel the fiery Spanish heartbeat.

On November 17, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted a cozy Craft n' Chill, inviting everyone to step away from their screens and spend a few hours creating by hand. Past Life Regression Group Journey

On November 16, 2025, a doorway into the timeless opened at Decentered Studio. Guided by spiritual hypnotherapist and shamanic healing practitioner Samira Ghassemian, participants embarked on a profound past life regression journey, traveling beyond the boundaries of the present to meet the echoes of who they once were.

Through gentle hypnosis and guided visualization, Samira led the group into the deeper layers of the subconscious, where hidden memories and soul imprints awaited. These glimpses into past incarnations served as keys to understanding recurring patterns, dissolving fears, and reclaiming the wisdom their spirits had carried across lifetimes.

Whether participants arrived with curiosity or conviction, the immersive experience offered an opportunity to release what no longer served them, illuminate their soul’s purpose, and awaken a deeper sense of peace and clarity in their present lives.

Attendees wore comfortable clothing and brought yoga mats — and some brought journals to capture the revelations that unfolded.


Past Life Regression Group Journey

Journeyed beyond time and uncovered their souls’ hidden stories — a guided past life regression with Samira Ghassemian that healed and awakened.

The High Fidelity Dance Lab came to Decentered Arts Studio on Saturday, November 15, from 3–6 PM PST — a three-hour deep dive into precision, clarity, and partnered connection.

Led by the teachers behind BAmF, the session opened with a clear framing: the workshop expanded the Advanced Following class into a full practice lab. Leads worked on initiating with clean, consistent impulses; follows trained to respond without distortion, keeping the frame honest and the conversation flowing. The room filled with co-created feedback and those satisfying “aha” moments when habitual noise in the dance was named and released.

In the second hour the group explored the Responsive Frame — how energetic intention met structural biomechanics — learning to hold and fill space together with the right balance of firmness and flexibility. The final hour invited time-and-space play: stretching, delaying, and amplifying phrases so following became pure artistry, and leads learned to build containers that invited creative risk.

By the end of the lab, dancers left moving cleaner, more connected, and creatively charged — perfectly warmed up to head straight to the Mission Fusion afterparty, where A’lan DJed into the night.


High Fidelity Dance Lab

Three-hour High Fidelity Dance Lab at Decentered Studio: partnered drills, responsive framing, time-bending phrases — leads sharpened, follows amplified, movement transformed.

On Friday, November 14, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio (1175 Folsom St) transformed into a quiet, spinning sanctuary for the Sufi Whirling Space Workshop — an evening of sacred movement, chant, and embodied devotion from 7–9 PM.

Dervish Aziz (Aziz Abbatiello), raised in an American Mevlevi family and initiated as a Semazen in 1996, guided the practice alongside Anna Whirling, whose lifelong whirling journey began in Ukraine and deepened through years in Turkey and onstage collaborations. Together they held a careful, trauma-aware container, teaching movement exercises, breath, and simple chants that prepared the body to whirl.

Participants learned the fundamentals of whirling: grounding, axis work, gentle spotting, and the heart-opening posture that turns movement into prayer. The facilitators wove instruction with soft vocalization and supportive adjustments so everyone — regardless of experience — could access the practice safely.

Attendees brought socks, wore comfortable clothes they could move in, and arrived ready to explore stillness through motion. The workshop closed with a shared moment of rest and integration, leaving everyone quietly centered and tenderly alight.


Sufi Whirling Space Workshop

Dervish Aziz and Anna Whirling guided a Sufi whirling workshop at Decentered Studio — sacred spinning, chant, embodied presence.

On a Thursday evening in mid-November, the Phoenix Hotel hosted Poolside Poets: Phoenix Farewell.

Guests arrived dressed in their boldest Rock and Roll.

Think: leather jackets and shredded denim, band tees softened by years of concerts, glitter-flecked jeans, moto boots and fishnets, slicked-back hair, studded belts, smoky liner, vintage rock merch layered under thrifted coats, metal chains, mirrored sunglasses at night, rhinestoned tops with worn-in boots — mix & match: leather, denim, mesh, glitter, velvet, tees, studs, whatever felt loud, electric, and ready for the stage.

Poolside Poets November 2025

A final Poolside Poets night at the Phoenix Hotel brought rock-and-roll style, poetry, music, dance, and bold farewell energy.

On November 12, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted SOULESTIAL — Binaural Sound Bath: Galaxies Within, a live sonic journey into expanded states of awareness.

Kevin Njikam — performing as SOULESTIAL — led the evening. Mentored by David Gibson (former Pink Floyd engineer and founder of The Globe Institute), Kevin blended science and spirit to create live binaural brainwave entrainment: handcrafted ambient loops, crystal tones, and subtle beats designed to ease participants into alpha and theta states. No two journeys sounded the same — Kevin listened to the room and sculpted the soundscape in real time.

The night began with a short grounding intention, moved into a deep, immersive sound bath, and closed with gentle integration. Participants brought yoga mats, blankets, and cozy layers; tea and light snacks were offered afterward.

Guests lay back, softened, and journeyed inward beneath SOULESTIAL’s live, brainwave-informed soundscape.


SOULESTIAL Binaural Sound Bath: Galaxies Within

Songwriters Group

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, Decentered Studio opened its doors to a deeply transformative experience — Embodied Manifestation: Release, Realign & Receive — a somatic healing journey led by Anna Bolender, a renowned Somatic Embodiment and Intuitive Life Coach dedicated to guiding people back to their bodies and inner wisdom.

In this immersive two-hour workshop, Anna invited participants to go beyond vision boards and affirmations, revealing that true manifestation begins within the body. Through gentle breathwork, grounding practices, emotional release, and intuitive movement, participants explored how the nervous system holds unprocessed emotions and limiting patterns — and how releasing them can open space for love, abundance, joy, and freedom to flow in.

Anna’s approach blended somatic healing with energy work and intuitive coaching, creating a nurturing space where participants realigned with their deepest desires and became an energetic match for the life they wished to create. Whether seeking fulfilling relationships, vibrant health, creative opportunities, or a deeper sense of freedom, attendees were guided toward receiving with ease and grace.

Guests came dressed comfortably and brought journals to capture reflections that arose. Together, in community and movement, they stepped into the version of themselves already living the vision they held within.


Embodied Manifestation: Release, Realign, & Receive

Somatic rituals to shed old patterns and awaken your magnetism — manifesting love, abundance, and freedom through embodied transformation.

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio (1175 Folsom St) hosted Gravitational Bond, a three-hour workshop (11:00 AM–2:00 PM) that explored trust, lift, and connection through partnered and group movement.

Facilitators Kadir Uyanik and Paula Planas Melgar led the session. Kadir — a playful partner-acrobat and movement artist known for teaching partner acro with warmth and precision — guided exercises that refined how participants led, followed, and carried one another. Paula — a nomadic contemporary dancer whose practice blends improvisation, breath, and poetic clarity — invited participants to open through feeling, breath, and creative play.

Together, they braided playful labs and somatic scores using simple prompts (hang, squeeze, float) and helium balloons as tactile improvisational partners. The workshop offered solo discoveries, partner experiments, and group jams that revealed how gravity, attention, and touch make and unmake bonds. It was accessible to all levels — participants wore comfortable clothes and, in some cases, brought a friend to move with.


Gravitational Bond

Gravitational Bond with Kadir and Paula was a playful, balloon-guided partner movement workshop that explored trust, lift, and embodied connection.

On November 8, 2025, Decentered Studio opened its doors for The Temple of Touch: Thai Massage Workshop (Level 1) — a hands-on, movement-rich afternoon led by Sidney Nicol.

Sidney, founder of The Temple of Touch, guided participants through a flowing sequence of Thai massage techniques drawn from her training at Bangkok’s Wat Pho and decades of teaching across the Bay. She taught how to use whole-body mechanics, weight, and rhythmic compression to give effortless, grounded massage and nourishing assisted stretches.

The two-and-a-half-hour workshop (4:00–6:30 PM) blended practice with short coaching moments on safe communication, giving and receiving feedback, and simple modifications so that everyone — regardless of experience, body type, or gender — could participate. No partner was required, though pairs were welcome.

Participants came in comfortable, stretchy clothes suitable for floorwork and explored gentle lifting, kneeling, and balances with offered modifications. They left with practical hands-on skills to share with friends, family, or in community settings — a quiet toolkit for connection, ease, and embodied care.


The Temple of Touch: Thai Massage Workshop - Level 1

Participants learned Thai massage with Sidney Nicol at Decentered Studio—an embodied workshop that blended movement, mindfulness, and conscious touch for all.

On Friday, November 7, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio hosted How to Live Wide Open, a two-hour workshop (6:30–8:30 PM) that taught practical tools to turn fear into forward motion.

A seasoned somatic facilitator—known for weaving movement, breath, mantra, and meditation into gentle, powerful practices—guided participants through embodied exercises, visualizations, and short meditations. Attendees learned to identify the "reptile" fear that keeps one stuck and the life-giving fear that nudges one onward, then practiced simple tools to reframe, release, and move with more ease.

Guests brought yoga mats and wore comfortable clothes. They left with a compact toolbox to calm their nervous systems, reclaim momentum, and live with greater openness and trust.

On November 5, 2025, Decentered Studio opened its doors for a grounding Yoga Class for Creatives and Artists led by Gabi Gazzola, a Brazilian yoga therapist, Pranic Healing master, and best-selling author known for her integrative, compassionate approach to mind–body healing.

In this gentle yet powerful session, Gabi guided participants through a traditional yoga practice rooted in breath, alignment, and presence. The class unfolded slowly and mindfully, inviting everyone to move with intention, hold postures with awareness, and explore meditation as a pathway to inner stillness.

Drawing on wisdom she had gained teaching across five continents, Gabi wove physical postures, breathwork, and energy awareness to support both body and spirit.

Whether newcomers or long-time practitioners, attendees found space to reconnect, cultivate patience and peace, and carry that balance into everyday life.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Decentered Studio (1175 Folsom St) opened its doors for a lively, sustainable clothing swap hosted by Decentered Arts in partnership with Remake and REWEARWOLF. From 3–7 PM the studio became a communal closet where people rehomed, rediscovered, and celebrated clothes together.

Organizers welcomed attendees with one simple rule: bring what you wanted to pass on, or arrive empty-handed — it was a help-yourself event, not a strict 1:1 swap. Racks and tables were arranged so visitors could browse freely for pieces that spoke to them — clothing, accessories, and thoughtful household items — with attention toward inclusive sizes and gender-expansive styles. Leftover items were donated to local community groups.

Remake and REWEARWOLF shared sustainable fashion resources and easy resale tools, and volunteers kept the flow moving so everyone found treasures. The studio sat up a short flight of stairs and wasn’t ADA-accessible; hosts invited anyone with access needs to reach out. Attendees left with new-to-them finds, new friends, and the lightness of giving items a second life.


Clothing Swap with Decentered Arts x Remake x REWEARWOLF

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio (1175 Folsom St) will host Changing Faces: Exploring the Portrait, a solo exhibition and artist talk by Pablo Moisés Ruiz Arroyo (aka Raiz). From 6:00–10:00 PM the studio will fill with figurative work, live music, and the warm chatter of people gathered to witness a painter’s conversation with identity.

Pablo will introduce the collection and share stories from his life — growing up in La Paz, migrating overland to California while supporting himself with murals and street art, and traveling the world painting public works. His portraits, the artist will explain, began with a simple question: Who is this? — and became explorations of shifting selves, hidden self-portraits, and the changing spirits he met along the way.

Black Hole Harvest will provide a live soundtrack, a textured score that mirrors Pablo’s blend of creation and collapse—music that underscored his mural work across continents. Light refreshments will be served, and guests will have a chance to ask questions, linger among the paintings, and take home prints or original pieces where available.

Pablo’s community work — from Precita Eyes to Mission Cultural Center — will be woven into the evening’s stories, reminding attendees that his art aims to beautify and belong to the neighborhoods it inhabits. Come for the paintings, stay for the tales: a night of portraiture, memory, and the migrant’s eye on the world.

Raiz (Pablo Moisés Ruiz Arroyo) exhibited portraits at Decentered Studio—migrant-born muralist’s intimate show with live music and artist talk.

On October 30th, Decentered Studio transformed into a sanctuary for The Samadhi Experience — a two-hour journey into divine consciousness. Through breath, movement, sound, and guided meditation, participants were invited to dissolve the noise of identity and rest in pure awareness.

Dr. Amaliny Yoganathan, a Tamil Siddha Yogi whose work bridges neuroscience, psychotherapy, and ancient mysticism, led the experience. With her voice, presence, and healing frequencies she guided the group into deep rest, heart-opening release, and radiant clarity — moments where the boundary between self and spirit gently dissolved.

The evening felt less like a class and more like a sacred encounter with stillness, surrender, and the vast inner expanse.

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Decentered Studio opened its doors for Improvisational Dance — an Eco-Somatic Experience, led by somatic educator and dancer Serena Pickett.

Serena guided participants through playful improvisations and eco-somatic movement scores that invited them to feel the rhythms of the earth inside their own bodies. Drawing on her decade-plus dance background and environmental studies, she wove breath, imagery, and contact with natural patterns into a gentle practice that dissolved the illusion of separateness from nature. The session offered space to release tension, soothe the nervous system, and reclaim joy through embodied expression — accessible to all levels, with no prior dance experience required.

Participants moved in comfortable clothes, explored curiosity-led choreography, and left with a renewed sense of connection to their bodies and the world around them.


Improvisational Dance Class an Eco-Somatic Experience

Serena Pickett guided an eco-somatic journey of movement, play, and embodied connection with nature’s rhythms—dancing with the earth.

Litquake, in collaboration with Decentered Arts, convened a luminous night at the Mission’s historic Victoria Theater. Patricia Smith opened with her invocation—“Dear ferocious dreamer… dear listener with the whole of your covetous heart”—and the room tilted into a shared present as Mia Ayumi Malhotra, Achy Obejas, Matthew Zapruder, and Gabriel Cortez delivered fierce, tender sets that honored language and community.

Doors had opened at 6:45pm and the house filled with neighbors, writers, and lovers of verse; admission was offered on a flexible, pay-what-you-can basis and walk-ups were welcomed when space allowed. After the readings, Decentered Arts hosted a bustling photobooth where pro photographer Michelle Castillo took free creative headshots for poets and attendees.

Poets were also invited to participate in the Pulse of Poetry in the Bay Area coffee-table project—an archival collaboration that promised to preserve the night’s voices. The evening folded into late-night conversation and new connections, a clear testament to the resilient, generative pulse of the Bay Area poetry community.


Dear Ferocious Dreamer: A Festival Finale in Verse

Litquake invited guests to join poets Mia Ayumi Malhotra, Achy Obejas, Matthew Zapruder, and Gabriel Cortez in bearing witness to the beauty and resiliency of our words and community at the Mission’s historic Victoria Theater.

On October 19, 2025, Decentered Studio became a quiet, radiant chamber for Embodying the Miraculous — a Group Hypnosis Journey & Sound Bath, guided by spiritual hypnotherapist and Shipibo-studies apprentice Samira Ghassemian.

Samira opened the evening by inviting everyone into a gentle conversation about intention — why they’d come and what they hoped to make space for. She set a trauma-informed, tender tone, then led the group into a guided hypnosis journey: a soft, focused descent into the subconscious where participants could receive positive suggestions, access insight, and meet the inner material that needed tending.

As voices lowered and breath slowed, crystal bowls and resonant tones wove through the room. The sound bath deepened the trance, helping people melt out of habitual tension, clear emotional weight, and attune to a quieter, luminous field of possibility. The mix of hypnotic guidance and sonic vibration created a spacious container for release, healing, and small awakenings.

After the journey, Samira guided a gentle integration — grounding movement, energetic cleansing, and an optional sharing circle where attendees reflected on insights and gentle shifts. Many left slowed, softer, and steadier, carrying a sense of recalibrated calm and renewed curiosity about their inner lives.

Samira’s facilitation threaded her own story of healing into the practice — a lived commitment to trauma-aware care that blends hypnotherapy, Reiki, somatics, and plant-medicine-informed perspectives. The night felt both intimate and expansive: a public ritual that honored personal reclamation, collective witness, and the everyday possibility of the miraculous.

Poolside Poets 20 Litquake and Anthology Launch

Poolside Poets turned two! We had a special evening planned with Litquake and celebrated the launch of our anthology.

On October 15, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio dissolved into a cosmic hush as Kevin Njikam (SOULESTIAL) led SOULESTIAL — Binaural Sound Bath: Galaxies Within.

Kevin opened the room with a quiet framing of intention, then layered live-looped tones, crystal textures, and real-time binaural beats to gently shepherd the group through alpha and theta brainwave states. Mentored by David Gibson, Kevin’s approach married technical precision with improvisational heart — no two journeys sounded the same — and the result felt like drifting through a private galaxy: slow tides of sound, shimmering loops, and low-frequency pulses that loosened tension and opened space.

Participants lay on mats, eyes closed, as the soundscape shifted from awareness to dream; breath slowed, the nervous system softened, and subtle images and sensations rose like constellations. After the sound journey, Kevin guided a soft integration, offering space for reflection while tea and light snacks eased everyone back to ordinary time.

The night balanced science and spirit: binaural brainwave entrainment met live musical intuition, and attendees left quieter, expanded, and quietly tethered to their own inner galaxies.

Decentered Arts opened our studio's doors for 14 artists for ArtSpan Open Studios. It was an incredible experience working with each artist and welcoming friends, neighbors and the general public to our studio.

On October 9th, Decentered Studio pulsed with energy as Morepower: The Immersive Fitness Experience took over its walls. This was not a typical workout—it was part ritual, part performance, and all power.

Guided by the enigmatic Certified Summoner Shahleelah Bibble, participants stepped into a charged atmosphere where fitness became theater. Through power poses, breathwork, aerobic bursts, and uncanny occult affirmations, the group “summoned the Swarm”—an ecstatic blend of sweat, laughter, and otherworldly release.

With music driving the movement and Shahleelah leading the charge, bodies stretched, hearts raced, and a new kind of portal opened—where empowerment and play collided in dazzling, unpredictable ways.

This was fitness as spectacle, ritual as sweat, and community as magic.

As the Full Moon in Aries rose high on October 8, 2025, Decentered Studio transformed into a sacred space for release, renewal, and reconnection. Guided by Maryzelle — a ceremonial facilitator known for weaving plant medicine and ancient rhythms into profound healing journeys — the evening invited guests to soften, open, and realign with the deeper currents of their hearts.

The ceremony began with a heart-opening cacao ritual, honoring cacao as a gentle plant teacher that awakened presence and deepened connection. As the warmth of the medicine moved through each body, Maryzelle led participants into a Full Moon meditation, creating space to shed old stories and call in new intentions aligned with their spirit’s evolution.

From there, the steady pulse of the medicine drum carried everyone inward — its ancient rhythms guiding them into altered states of consciousness where intuition awakened and the Earth’s heartbeat echoed through their own. In this powerful sound journey, stagnant energies cleared, revealing space for healing, inspiration, and peace to flow through.

These simple yet powerful tools helped open the heart, deepen authentic connection, and invite more joy into daily life.

On October 4, Decentered Studio hosted Physical Storytelling with Francis Acquino, a movement workshop that explored the art of narrative through the body.

Francis, a mover and maker who blended theatre, animation, and experimental fusion, invited participants to discover how gesture, rhythm, and imagination could bring stories to life. His practice, drawing from both performance and play, guided movers to unlock their own physical language of storytelling.

Through guided exercises and improvisation, the workshop opened a space where movement became text and the body became its own narrator. Participants brought curiosity, comfortable clothes, and notebooks for reflections as they stepped into this playful dialogue between self and story.

Psychedelic Breathwork with Matt Barkin

On that Sunday, the studio filled with the sound of breath as Matt Barkin guided a mind-bending journey into altered states of consciousness. With over fifteen years of practice in Buddhist Vipassana and Kriya Yoga, Matt wove ancient techniques into a modern somatic experience designed to awaken the body’s innate healing potential.

Participants lay down, settled into guided meditation, and were carried through a dynamic breath sequence that shifted awareness from thought into sensation. In this state, stress unwound, the nervous system recalibrated, and space opened for release, insight, and renewal.

Matt’s approach blended breathwork with the grounding wisdom of transpersonal psychology, offering both intensity and integration. His sessions were known for balancing depth with gentleness, leaving participants lighter, clearer, and more connected to their inner selves.

All it took was their breath—Matt guided the rest.

The October edition of _Gen Blend_ brought writers and neighbors together for an evening of community, creativity, and shared food at Ruth’s Table. Hosted by Liz Cahill and Jessica Kie McCallum, the event featured readings by **Mary Graves**, **Carl Weiner**, **Daphne Gottlieb**, and **Barbara Handler**, each offering distinct reflections on memory, family, love and personal growth.

After the readings, **Spandan Rath**, a classically trained tabla artist, filled the room with rhythm and warmth, bridging generations through sound before the night transitioned into the open mic. Guests shared original poems and short pieces under the guidance of the Decentered Arts hosts, closing the evening with conversation, snacks, and gratitude.

On September 30, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio came alive with creative energy as artists, makers, and entrepreneurs gathered for Thriving Together, an immersive workshop exploring how simple AI tools could transform their creative practices.

Led by creative technologist Lem Canady and educator-performer Joon Kim, the evening wove together art and innovation, showing participants how mobile-first AI tools could automate marketing tasks—writing captions, designing posts, even running ads—so they could focus on what they loved most: creating.

Through hands-on demos and guided practice, attendees discovered how these apps could act as personal marketing teams in their pockets. Conversations sparked about reclaiming time, growing audiences, and building thriving creative communities without needing any tech background.

More than just a tech tutorial, the workshop became a celebration of collaboration and possibility—where artists learned to harness new tools not to replace their creativity, but to amplify it.

On September 29th, Decentered Studio came alive to celebrate the debut of Jessica Kie McCallum’s poetry collection, _Yang Sayang_. Friends, family, and community members gathered for an evening of art, poetry, and conversation in honor of this landmark publication from Decentered Press.
The evening opened with live music by Nic Hampton—who also designed the book’s striking cover—setting the tone for what followed. A lineup of powerful poetry readings by Connie Lin, Lilly Shi, and Lorrie Change brought their unique voices to the stage before the spotlight shifted to Jess, who shared selections from _Yang Sayang_.
The program continued with a lively Q&A featuring members of the publishing team—Rhea Joseph, Liz Cahill, and Ben Draffin—who discussed the book’s journey to publication. The night closed with a book signing, where attendees had the chance to connect with Jess personally and leave with signed copies of _Yang Sayang_.

On this Saturday, Decentered Studio filled with the energy of release and renewal as Kate Winch led a powerful EFT Tapping journey. For over two decades, Kate had devoted her life to teaching tapping as a tool to dissolve stress, unblock limiting beliefs, and awaken abundance. Once a coach, hypnotherapist, and intuitive reader, she discovered in EFT a way to help others break free from procrastination, fear, and old patterns—guiding them back to joy, creativity, and flow.

In this gathering, Kate invited participants to tap into their body’s wisdom, clearing money blocks, softening self-sabotage, and opening the nervous system to receive more love, support, and pleasure. With each round of tapping, the group felt lighter, freer, and more connected to their own authentic power. The evening ended in movement and dance—an embodied celebration of what it felt like to welcome life’s blessings with ease and delight.

Sound Healing – New Moon & Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo

On September 24, 2025, the New Moon and Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo opened a portal of renewal, healing, and alignment. As the skies shifted, we gathered at Decentered Studio for an evening of sound healing guided by Yvonne Wang.

Yvonne, an intuitive coach, yoga instructor, meditation facilitator, and sound healer, led the ceremony with wisdom and grace. As the founder of MPower Wellness Inc., she shared ancient practices rooted in yogic, shamanic, and indigenous traditions. Known for creating transformative inner journeys, she wove sound, movement, and ritual to help others realign body, mind, and spirit with clarity and resilience. Her ceremony offered not only profound relaxation but also a chance to release emotional weight and step into new states of freedom.

Through the resonant vibrations of gongs, crystal bowls, flutes, and sacred instruments, participants were invited to release perfectionism, shed outdated patterns, and step into grounded embodiment. The eclipse magnified the energy of the moment, offering a rare opportunity to reset karmic cycles and listen deeply to inner wisdom.

The evening began with guided intention setting, moved into a deeply immersive sound journey, and closed with a group message and gentle integration. It was a chance to surrender to sound, expand awareness, and align body, mind, and spirit under Virgo’s transformative light.

Participants brought journals, eye masks, and sacred items they wished to charge during the ceremony.

Decentered Studio, in collaboration with Gather SF, hosted Unlock Your Body’s Wisdom, a somatic healing workshop led by Anna Bolender.

Participants moved through breath, sound, and movement practices to release stored tension, regulate their nervous systems, and open space for transformation. From shaking and intuitive expression to exploring the science of emotional release, Anna offered a pathway out of self-sabotaging patterns and into deeper connection with self.

A Somatic Embodiment & Intuitive Life Coach and Reiki Master, Anna guided with a blend of somatics, energy healing, and mindset work, helping guests rewire patterns and return home to their bodies.

The session invited the community to move, release, and rediscover freedom together.

The Temple of Touch: Thai Massage Workshop – Level 1

On a late September afternoon, Decentered Studio transformed into a sanctuary of presence and play as Sidney Nicol guided participants through the foundations of Thai Massage. Moving in rhythm with breath, they discovered how to give and receive touch with ease—using body weight, alignment, and gravity as allies.

The room swelled with partnered stretches, mindful compression, and moments of laughter as people explored the art of conscious connection. More than technique, the workshop offered a practice of trust—where movement became meditation and touch became a shared language.

Sidney, founder of The Temple of Touch, has been cultivating this playful, healing approach since her first Thai Massage training at the Wat Pho Temple in Bangkok in 2006. Blending traditions of yoga, massage, and mindfulness, she invites both beginners and seasoned practitioners to reconnect with the power of touch as a pathway to presence.


Guests discovered balance and release as Thai massage became dance—bodies moving with rhythm, breath, and playful touch in sacred connection.

Community Yoga with Gabi Gazzola

On September 17, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted its first Community Yoga Class with Gabi Gazzola. The morning began slowly and intentionally, with breath-centered movement, careful alignment, and moments of quiet meditation. Participants sank into stillness while cultivating strength and presence, carrying the practice into their daily lives.

Gabi guided the class with warmth and clarity, drawing on a path that had taken her from a legal career in Brazil to deep study of yoga and energy healing in India. Her journey across continents—through teaching, healing, and writing—shaped the compassionate, integrative approach she brought to the mat.

This first class marked the beginning of an ongoing practice at Decentered Studio, where community gathered to ground, breathe, and renew together.

On September 15, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted its first Guided Meditation with Gabi Gazzola. The evening offered a gentle invitation into stillness, where participants released stress, restored balance, and touched a deep sense of inner clarity together.

Gabi led the group with her signature presence—steady, compassionate, and transformative. Trained as a lawyer in Brazil before leaving her career to study yoga and energy healing in India, Gabi has since become an internationally respected yoga therapist, Pranic Healing master, and author. Her journey across five continents has shaped her integrative approach, weaving together tradition, healing, and lived experience.

This inaugural gathering marked the beginning of a new weekly practice at Decentered Studio, where community found calm, presence, and connection through shared silence.

Gravitational Bond
An exploration of trust in motion

On September 13, 2025, Decentered Studio hosted Gravitational Bond, a workshop with movement artists Kadir Uyanik and Paula Planas Melgar. Together, they guided participants through playful explorations of trust — from subtle, attentive gestures to expansive, gravity-lifted partnering.

Kadir, a San Francisco–based acrobat and teacher, brought their blend of humor, precision, and embodied trust, while Paula, a Barcelona-born dancer, carried her lifelong devotion to movement’s healing and connective power. Their collaboration invited participants into a joyful practice of co-creation, weaving bonds both visible and unseen.


Bodies trusted, lifted, and tangled—participants MOVED with Kadir and Paula, discovering gravity’s embrace and the joyful bonds between them.

Decentered Studio Launch Party – September 12, 2025

Decentered Arts unveiled its new gallery and community space in SoMa with a vibrant launch party. Guests explored artwork by Alvar Jacomet, swayed to live music by Tasha Malan, and danced into the night with a DJ set from Maryzelle. The evening marked the beginning of a new creative home for artists and community gatherings in San Francisco.

On June 22, 2025, Decentered Open Mic gathered one last time at The Center—its creative home for over four years—to celebrate, release, and honor the space that held so many stories.

Performers, friends, and longtime regulars filled the room for an evening that was equal parts open mic and heartfelt goodbye. The stage became a revolving door of voices and emotions: poems, songs, laughter, tears, even moments of silence. Nothing was off limits—each person shared a fragment of what this community had meant to them.

It wasn’t an ending but a transition. Between hugs and applause, the hosts reminded everyone that Decentered Open Mic wasn’t closing—just evolving. A new chapter awaited, and the next venue would soon be revealed.

That night, the mic stood as a ritual of continuity—a symbol of how creativity and connection endure wherever artists gather to listen, speak, and be seen.

Sweet Beginnings: Poetreats Launch Party

On June 12, a warm and whimsical evening unfolded as friends gathered to celebrate the launch of Poetreats — a dream project by Anna that paired artisanal cookies with audio poetry for a nourishing, multi-sensory experience.

Born from a desire to combine somatic practice with art, food, and joy, Poetreats blossomed over six months into a celebration of mindfulness and community.

Guests arrived to the scent of fresh cookies and the sound of laughter before settling in for poetry readings by Shiv Srivastava, Rhea Joseph, and the event’s first Featured Poet, Savinay Nangalia.

The evening was cozy, heartfelt, and delicious — a true sweet beginning.

Cookies met poetry in a multisensory feast of sweetness, softness, and spirit. Guests savored verses with every bite.

Art Exhibit: The Journey 'Home'
Friday, June 6

Decentered Arts and Uzay Gallery presented The Journey 'Home', a powerful solo exhibition by Maya (Maryam) Tohidi. Marking the final show at Uzay Gallery before losing its long-held space, the evening served as both a celebration and a farewell.

Tohidi’s work reflected a deeply personal exploration of displacement and belonging—tracing her journey from childhood in Iran, immigration to Canada, the closure of her San Francisco home, and the ongoing search for new roots. Mixed-media works, layered with personal writings, poetry, and objects, combined English and Farsi text with Persian rug motifs—sometimes used to obscure pain, sometimes to reweave new narratives of hope.

Constructed from home-improvement materials and crafted both in-studio and during a residency at Uzay, the pieces embodied labor, transformation, and resilience. They honored cultural tradition while embracing the instability and beauty of evolving identity.

The night was scored by DJ Rev. Hooman, who filled the gallery with mystical sounds—melodic house, deep rhythms, and tribal beats shaped by Middle Eastern and Latin influences.

The event marked both an ending and a beginning: a farewell to Uzay’s physical space, and a symbolic leap toward future definitions of "home."

Poets bloomed in dream world glam—guests floated in chiffon, nightmares, and neon while dancers and soundscapes dissolved the Phoenix into fantasy.


"Hand Jobs" – Megan Mackey Art Exhibition

On May 9th, 2025, artist Megan Mackey hosted \*Hand Jobs\*, an anti-pretentious art exhibition dedicated entirely to the body part we see the most: hands.

Held in celebration of Mackey’s birthday, the evening invited guests to revel in playful surrealism, cheeky wordplay, and perhaps a bit of **subLIMBinal** messaging. True to her Dadaist ethos, Mackey refused to explain her pieces, urging viewers to **_finger it out_** for themselves.

The exhibition featured works that danced between the absurd and the sensual—some NSFW—making it a night for adult eyes only. Attendees mingled over drinks and food, their presence and donations fueling the night’s festivities.

This celebration of surreal, self-aware art was made possible with support from Decentered Arts, building community through art in all forms.

Gen Blend May 2025

Decentered Studio will host Paint & Groove on Sunday, December 7, 2025, 2:00–4:00 PM — an easygoing afternoon where painting met music and warm tea. The studio will hum with soulful tunes as people dropped into a short grounding exercise, picked up a brush, and followed a playful guided painting session designed for beginners and seasoned makers alike.

Vanessa Ramirez — a Bay Area self-taught painter known for vibrant acrylic abstractions — will lead the workshop, weaving brief prompts and gentle guidance so each participant could trust their instincts and find flow on canvas. Materials (canvas, brushes, paint) will be provided; attendees will be invited to relax, experiment, and share quietly with others during integration time over herbal tea.

Come as you are, bring a friend if you like, and expect to leave with a finished piece and a light, inspired heart — a small, creative reset before the holidays.


Paint & Groove

Paint, sip tea, and groove with artist Vanessa Ramirez at Decentered Studio—an afternoon of creativity, connection, and soulful expression.

Participants will join the songwriting workshop led by talented songwriter, guitarist, and singer Ariel O, frontman of The Fancy Monkeys.

The session will take place on December 8, 2025, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Decentered Studio. All will be welcome — no experience necessary — and, as always, the event will be free.


Songwriters will gather at Decentered Studio for a free workshop led by Ariel O of The Fancy Monkeys, open to all.

On December 10, 2025, Decentered Studio will open its doors for a grounding Yoga Class for Creatives and Artists led by Gabi Gazzola, a Brazilian yoga therapist, Pranic Healing master, and best-selling author known for her integrative, compassionate approach to mind–body healing.

In this gentle yet powerful session, Gabi will guide participants through a traditional yoga practice rooted in breath, alignment, and presence. The class will unfold slowly and mindfully, inviting everyone to move with intention, hold postures with awareness, and explore meditation as a pathway to inner stillness.

Drawing on wisdom she gained teaching across five continents, Gabi will weave physical postures, breathwork, and energy awareness to support both body and spirit.

Whether newcomers or long-time practitioners, attendees will find space to reconnect, cultivate patience and peace, and carry that balance into everyday life.

🧘‍♀️ Guests will arrive as they are — and leave grounded, renewed, and centered.


On December 11, Decentered Studio will turn into a cozy little living room for a relaxed Movie Night. We’ll kick off a Harry Potter marathon with popcorn, hot chocolate, and whatever favorite snacks guests bring along. The lights will dim, shoes will come off at the door, and everyone will settle in for an easy evening of shared nostalgia and warm company. With our kitchenette open for reheating dinner or sharing dishes, it will unfold like a community hangout disguised as a film night—an invitation to unwind together as the year winds down.
