Event Series Info and Artist Details:
Sanãda Space is an artistic initiative started by two Indian classical dancers, Priyadharshini Govindarajan and Anulekha Chillal. We will be doing a periodic series of events; platforming different singers, dancers, musicians/ instrumentalists in the South Asian and fusion arts space in SF. We would love to work with primarily South Asian vendors for food/drink refreshments for our event.
This South Asian Jam features an evening of Indian classical music and dance
- Hindustani vocals
Swati Jhaveri, a melodious singer will take us through a series of evening themed ragas / songs that will be both soothing and joyous to hear. She will be accompanied by instrumentalists, Tushar Gupte, a skilled tabla player (North Indian drums) and Satyam Bagwe, a talented harmonium player and vocalist.
- Indian drums (tabla and mridangam)
There will be a fun back and forth drum duo / jugalbandi between the North and South Indian drum players. Come witness beats in action from Tushar Gupta, an accomplished tabla player, and Shiva Iyer, an accomplished mridangam player.
- Kuchipudi dance
Have you ever seen a dancer balancing on a plate before? Anulekha Chillal, a Kuchipudi dancer, will perform a staple dance item and then proceed to demo a plate dance as the finale. She will be musically accompanied by Priyadharshini Govindarajan, a skilled Bharatanatyam dancer providing nattuvangam (percussion through cymbals), and Shiva on South Indian drums/mridangam.
