On the evening of April 11, 2026, the halls of African American Art & Culture Complex will transform into a vibrant gathering of fashion, culture, and community for “If I Grow Up,” a fashion show presented by ÉCLAIRÉS.

As guests arrive at the historic Fulton Street venue, they will first step into an immersive West African-inspired market experience. The space will come alive with conversation, craft, and rhythm: a legendary oil painter sharing their work, a local sculptor and upcycle artist displaying transformed materials, and the aroma of halal Caribbean fusion food filling the room. Nearby, a live drum circle will pulse through the space, setting the tempo for the night and welcoming the community into the experience.

Before the runway lights turn on, visitors will wander through this marketplace of makers-connecting with artists, exploring the textures of the community, and catching glimpses of the newest pieces from the Éclairés collection.

Then, at 7:30 PM, the show will begin.

If I Grow Up will unfold as a visual journey through consciousness-exploring the tension between individuality and the identities society places upon us. Each look on the runway will tell part of that story, blending Afro-toned palettes and design language with echoes of both vintage and contemporary streetwear. The garments will move between past and future, heritage and reinvention.

At its core, the evening will reflect the philosophy behind Éclairés-“the Enlightened Ones.” Through clothing, connection, and shared cultural space, the brand invites its community to reflect on who we are, who we become, and how creativity can illuminate the path between the two.

For one evening inside the African American Art & Culture Complex, fashion will become more than style-it will become story, memory, and possibility.

Craft n' Chill 

Craft n’ Chill invites everyone to unwind, get creative together at Decentered Studio.

On the evening of April 2, 2026, poetry glowed softly beneath candlelight inside the Exploratorium, as Decentered Arts presented Decentered Poetry Lounge: After Dark - Immersed in Verse.

Set within the museum’s beloved Exploratorium After Dark, the evening transformed part of the Exploratorium into a cozy oasis of words, rhythm, and reflection. Surrounded by interactive exhibits exploring science, perception, and art, guests stepped into a quieter corner of the night-one filled with poetry.

Bay Area poets took the stage to share their work, while soft candlelight, ambient visuals, and the hum of creative energy invited visitors to slow down and listen. The lounge also opened space for participation: guests sat down to write, shared their own lines, or simply let the poetry carry them through the evening.

Nearby, the immersive installation The Green Fairy offered a playful ritual-guests could swap a poem for a sip of a nonalcoholic cocktail, turning creativity itself into currency.

Throughout the night, a freestyle poetry workshop welcomed both seasoned writers and first-time poets to experiment with language and voice. Whether arriving to listen, write, or simply vibe, the lounge offered a space where curiosity, imagination, and community met.

For one Thursday night, inside the Exploratorium’s world of experiments and discovery, poetry became its own kind of exploration-an invitation to romanticize life, line by line.

Gen Blend April 2026 

An intergenerational writer's potluck and open mic. Every first Thursday at Ruth's Table.

The ÉCLAIRÉS Market Quest was a fashion pop-up experience centered on gathering people to reconnect with themselves through fruit, clothing, and community.

For the second Market Quest, guests experienced homemade food by Amiyah Shields, fresh juice prepared by Joseph, a hands-on sewing station with Jawa, and a workshop on home sewing machine techniques led by ÉCLAIRÉS designer Cheick. Limited pieces from the new collection were made available for pre-order.

Amiyah prepared home-cooked meals through her business Shecooksafreakinglot, known for flavorful meal prep, catering, and individual plates.

The event plate featured Honey Cajun Wings with Butter Roasted Corn.

Event entry was $20 via Venmo or cash at the door and included one juice token, access to Cheick’s sewing workshop, and an early look at the latest ÉCLAIRÉS collection.

Proceeds from the event went toward the ÉCLAIRÉS Fashion Show on April 11, with a portion donated to Noisebridge.

Noisebridge remained open to the public, and the event followed a NTAFLOF (No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds) model.

Guests gathered to explore, connect, and experience what the ÉCLAIRÉS Market Quest had to offer.

On an evening in mid-March Saint Joseph's Art Society hosted the return of Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts alongside curators Baruch Porras Hernandez, Rhea Joseph, and Liz Cahill. In this breathtaking historic venue—founded by Ken Fulk—poetry, music, dance, and fashion unfolded together in a dreamy evening of performance and community.

Guests arrived dressed in their best “Forbidden Fruit.”

Think: mysterious masquerade, red velvet and black lace, dark glamour and desirable anonymity, cherry-printed dresses and strawberry jumpsuits, masks, silk gloves, lush crimson tones, leafy greens, temptation couture, decadent textures—mix & match: satin, lace, velvet, mesh, silk, whatever felt deliciously forbidden.

The evening also featured the debut of the Forbidden Words Quilt Project, led by Lorraine Woodruff-Long and Trisha Hickey. This international community quilt highlighted 384 words and phrases banned or scrubbed from U.S. government communications, as identified by PEN America. Created by more than 200 contributors across every U.S. state and six countries, the quilt transformed censorship into collective storytelling through fabric and thread.

More artists joined throughout the night as the soaring halls of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society filled with poetry, music, movement, and celebration.


Poolside Poets at Saint Joseph's Art Society 

Poolside Poets returned on March 18 at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society—featuring poetry, music, dance, the debut of the Forbidden Words Quilt, and a Forbidden Fruit masquerade.

This session was led by Decentered Studio’s current artist, Liam Clickenger. He led a photography workshop using smartphones 🤳

Participants gathered to get creative, learn new skills, and level up their photography practice.

**About the artist:**

Liam Clickenger is a photographer and educator whose work operates at the intersection of observation and intimacy. His creative practice spans cultural and documentary photography, fine art, and environmental commentary, often centering presence and the quiet moments that shape us. Clickenger’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, and he has taught photography at Bay Area colleges for more than a decade. Across disciplines and contexts, his work reflects a sustained commitment to attention, ethics, and the long arc of photographic practice.


Craft n' Chill - Phone Photography Workshop

Smartphone photography workshop with artist Liam Clickenger—participants learned creative techniques, sharpened observation, and explored everyday storytelling through their phone cameras.

On the afternoon of March 14, 2026, North Beach transformed into a surreal wedding procession during the beloved Brides of March. Among the many stops along the route, The Golden Sardine hosted a particularly poetic celebration.

For a brief, magical window between 4:00 and 5:30 PM, the bar became a chapel of verse. Guests arrived dressed in bridal whites and playful wedding attire-lace veils, thrifted gowns, satin gloves, bouquets tucked under arms, tiaras slightly askew. Some wore vintage wedding dresses, others layered veils over everyday clothes, all joining the whimsical tradition of becoming brides for the day.

The reading gathered a radiant lineup of poets-each a “Bride of Poetry.” Voices rose one by one from the bridal party: Betsy Alma Ramazzini, Connie Lin, Elena Pinnen, Eyra Dordi, Katherine Okpara, Liz Cahill, Rhea Joseph, and Spinelli-each offering poems that moved between humor, tenderness, longing, and celebration.

The ceremony of words was accompanied by the “Bride of Song,” Anne‑Marie Russo, whose voice filled the room with music that wove gently between the readings, turning the gathering into something between a performance and a communal toast.

For that hour and a half, the Golden Sardine held a joyful congregation of poets, singers, and wandering brides from the streets of North Beach. Strangers became witnesses, laughter mingled with lyric lines, and the room glowed with the playful spirit of a wedding where everyone-performer or passerby-was welcome to join the bridal party.

**About the Artist:**

Clickenger’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, and he has taught photography at Bay Area colleges for more than a decade. Across disciplines and contexts, his work reflects a sustained commitment to attention, ethics, and the long arc of photographic practice.

**About the Show:**

Over more than two decades, Liam made images across shifting contexts and ways of working.

In Practice was a retrospective exhibition that brought together small groupings of that work—images operating at different scales and distances, from aerial landscapes to street-level documentary projects. Some were made in motion. Others were created slowly. Some had been exhibited before, while others had remained quietly in the archive.

Many of the pieces in the exhibition were one-of-one prints—artifacts of specific moments, materials, and processes that no longer existed in quite the same way. Rather than editions designed for repetition, they were singular objects shaped by circumstance, access, and instinct.

Seen together, the work formed points of contact between observation and intimacy, public life and private attention, and between places, people, and moments that might not otherwise meet.

Songwriters Group turned 1! We gathered for an evening of live music, drinks, snacks, and community, featuring a stellar lineup of songwriters performing live.

Songwriters Group marked its one-year anniversary with a stellar lineup of live performances, plus drinks, snacks, and community celebration.

This session was led by Decentered Studio’s current artist, Tim Guan, who guided fun, vegetable-themed crafts 🥬

Guests used their hands and got crafty. Plenty of supplies were available, and participants also brought their own materials.

Hosted in a shoes-off venue, the studio’s kitchenette welcomed shared dinners and dishes throughout the gathering.



Craft n' Chill - Vegetable Art with Tim

Artist Tim Guan led veggie-themed crafts—guests brought creativity, shared food, and gathered barefoot in our cozy studio space.

Decentered Studio -then newly opened as a community arts space in SOMA—welcomed people in for a generous, easygoing clothing swap in partnership with the American Cancer Society and Youth With A Mission.

Rather than a strict one-to-one exchange, the swap unfolded in a spirit of abundance. Some guests arrived with bags of clothes to pass on, others came empty-handed, and everyone was invited to browse freely and take what they needed. Tables filled with a wide mix of garments spanning bodies and gender expressions, with a strong femme presence and, as always, something for just about everyone.

Beyond clothing, attendees shared accessories, makeup, skincare, and thoughtfully chosen household items, all offered with care and intention. By the end of the day, unclaimed items were gathered and donated to Youth With A Mission, extending the circle of giving beyond the room.

The event reflected Decentered Arts’ mission as an artist-led 501(c)(3): building community through shared creative and mutual-aid practices.


Clothing Swap Decentered x American Cancer Society 

A community clothing swap at Decentered Studio brought people together to share resources freely - items or not - while supporting partners and one another.

On Saturday, February 7, Decentered Arts opened the doors of Decentered Studio for Medium, the first solo exhibition by San Francisco–based painter Tim Guan—a quiet, thoughtful evening devoted to attention, presence, and what it means to be embodied in a hyper-digital world.

As guests arrived, the studio filled with warm conversation, soft light, and the low hum of anticipation. Tim welcomed the room with an artist talk, sharing how painting—slow, deliberate, and demanding—has become his way of resisting the constant pull of screens. Working figuratively in oil, he spoke about observation as a radical act, one that helps preserve his humanity amid the speed and noise of contemporary life. His works, drawn from the last year and a half, invited viewers to pause and sit with images shaped by the tension between embodiment and disembodiment in the information age.

Throughout the evening, live music from Black Hole Harvest drifted through the space, weaving sound into the visual experience and deepening the sense of reflection. With light refreshments in hand, visitors moved from painting to painting, lingering with questions Tim’s practice holds close: What has our disembodied living done to us? And what, still, is worth noticing, preserving, and honoring about our physical existence?

Medium continued at Decentered Studio throughout February, offering time and space to return, look again, and stay with these questions. As hosts, Decentered Arts was grateful to hold space for Tim’s debut solo show—an evening and a month rooted in curiosity, slowness, and shared presence.

A $10 suggested donation supported the music and photography, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Craft n’ Chill – Unplug and Play Takeover

Guests used their hands and got crafty at this free bi-weekly hang. Some supplies were provided, or participants brought their own—every project was welcome, or folks simply came to chill. People painted their nails, played Nintendo Switch, read books, started new projects, or enjoyed the vibe together. All hangs were welcomed, and guest artists occasionally dropped in to lead casual, hands-on workshops.

Decentered Studio was a shoes-off venue with a small kitchenette, and guests brought dinner or dishes to share. Those interested in co-hosting or volunteering were invited to reach out to Rhea at decentered dot org.

On an evening in mid-January, Saint Joseph’s Arts Society hosted Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts.

Guests arrived dressed in their best “Resort Wear,” leaning into White Lotus fantasy and poolside glamour — flowing whites and tropical prints, silk sarongs and linen suits, seashell jewelry, breezy dresses, relaxed tailoring, and playful swimwear layered with elegance. Linen, silk, cotton, raffia, shells, and foliage mixed freely, creating a vacation-ready, indulgent atmosphere.

The evening featured poetry from Baruch Porras Hernandez, Giovanna Lomanto, Arthur Kao, Drew Sage, Tucker Bryant, and additional voices that joined throughout the night.

Music was provided by Hugo de la Lune, whose live set carried the room between readings.

Dancers Erica Knox and Tobias Echeverria added movement and visual poetry, weaving through the space and completing the lush, poolside dream.


Poolside Poets returned in January at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society—resort-glam poetry, music, dance, and Decentered Arts magic.

Participants joined a songwriting workshop led by talented songwriter, guitarist, and singer Ariel O, frontman of The Fancy Monkeys. The session took place on January 12, 2026, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Decentered Studio. All were welcome — no experience necessary — and, as always, the event was free.

Songwriters gathered at Decentered Studio for a free workshop led by Ariel O of The Fancy Monkeys, open to all.

Beginning January 10, 2026, Decentered Arts opened the doors of Decentered Studio to _MagusFusion: Energy Bodies_, a solo exhibition by San Francisco–based artist Nikolas Larson, on view through January 31.

Larson—known locally for his vibrant Mission District chalk murals under the name _chalkvisions_—brings his expansive visual language indoors. Working with chalk, ink, and paint, his pieces move between art nouveau, sacred geometry, and mythic symbolism, drawing from mysticism, futurism, fashion, and science fiction. Each work feels like a diagram of energy: bodies in motion, devotion rendered in line, color, and pattern.

The exhibition launched with an opening evening on January 10, featuring an artist talk by Nikolas, light refreshments, and a warm, cozy gathering at the studio. The opening night also included a live musical offering from Sherbet Collective, whose sound draws from Turkish Sufi music traditions. With oud, rebab, vocals, and percussion, their devotional, soul-stirring performance set the tone for the exhibition—ancient resonance meeting the present moment.

_MagusFusion: Energy Bodies_ now lives in the studio throughout the month, inviting visitors to return, linger, and witness the evolving dialogue between art, energy, and community. A $10 suggested donation supports the artists and musicians, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Gen Blend January 2026

On New Year’s Eve, Decentered Studio transformed into a glowing, two-floor house party as Decentered Arts joined forces with Basil House and Gather SF to welcome 2026 together.

Guests arrived wrapped in Celestial Coze—metallics, sequins, velvet, faux fur, and cosmic shimmer—stepping into a shoes-off world that felt ethereal, warm, and ready to dance all night. Inside, three stages pulsed with live music and spontaneous jams, while a tea lounge offered calm, a squish zone invited cozy connection, and surrealist art pulled people into dreamy corners of the space.

Across the night, sets unfolded from Hugo de la Lune, Oakadelic, Jin Lee Baobei, CJ, Roziht Eve, Elijah Malik, Sincerely Nic, and Black Hole Harvest, with musicians jumping in and out as the energy shifted. Bubbly flowed at midnight, light snacks circulated, and BYOB bottles were shared among friends old and new.

Entry closed at 1am, but the celebration carried on until 4—an intimate, joyful house party built on community, music, and collective care, with ticket sales supporting the artists and the magic that made the night possible.

Craft n' Chill

Craft n’ Chill invited everyone to unwind, get creative, and make handmade holiday gifts together at Decentered Studio on December 1.

Folks came to hang with us. We had hot chocolate, watched movies, and shared favorite dishes and traditions.

There was a craft corner and a puzzle corner too — a choose-your-own-adventure hang, with even some dancing.

Super casual. We even hosted a little white elephant with a $20 budget, leaning toward handmade or upcycled gifts.


Christmas Day Potluck & Hangs

We spent the Christmas together—hot chocolate, movies, shared dishes, crafts, puzzles, even dancing, and a handmade white elephant. Cozy, creative, everyone was welcome.

Participants joined the songwriting workshop led by talented songwriter, guitarist, and singer Ariel O, frontman of The Fancy Monkeys.

The session took place on December 22, 2025, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Decentered Studio. All were welcome — no experience necessary — and, as always, the event was free.


Songwriters Group  SongShare 

On Sunday afternoon, December 21, Decentered Arts Studio opened into a shared field of sound, imagination, and making during a Soundscape & Art Jam guided by Roziht Eve.

Roziht — a San Francisco–based Taiwanese American artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist — shaped a live, evolving soundscape as participants rested, listened, drew, wrote, and created alongside the music. Art supplies were available, and guests brought whatever helped them feel comfortable and inspired.

The gathering was donation-based, with all proceeds supporting Decentered Arts’ end-of-year fundraising campaign, sustaining free and accessible arts programming and the community space held in SoMa.

On December 11, Decentered Studio turned into a cozy little living room for a relaxed Movie Night. We kicked off a Harry Potter marathon with popcorn, hot chocolate, and favorite snacks guests brought along. On the evening of November 12, 2025, Decentered Arts partnered with Lorrie Chang to bring the premiere of _Ain’t Samsāra a Bitch_ to the historic Great Star Theater in Chinatown.

Born from the imagination of Chinatown native and first-time screenwriter Lorrie Chang, and directed by visual artist and filmmaker Ujjayini Sikha, the short film followed a Chinese American immigrant and devout Buddhist navigating the afterlife—reviewing her soul contracts, including the fraught bond with her daughter, and questioning whether she could finally step off the wheel of reincarnation.

The premiere unfolded as a layered cultural gathering, weaving together the film screening with live music, poetry, additional short films, and a thoughtful Q&A with the cast and crew. Presented as a NOTAFLOF event, the night welcomed a broad community, including Chinese-speaking audiences, into an intimate exploration of ancestry, spirituality, and release.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Decentered Studio (1175 Folsom St) opened its doors for a lively, sustainable clothing swap hosted by Decentered Arts in partnership with Remake and REWEARWOLF. From 3–7 PM the studio became a communal closet where people rehomed, rediscovered, and celebrated clothes together.

Organizers welcomed attendees with one simple rule: bring what you wanted to pass on, or arrive empty-handed — it was a help-yourself event, not a strict 1:1 swap. Racks and tables were arranged so visitors could browse freely for pieces that spoke to them — clothing, accessories, and thoughtful household items — with attention toward inclusive sizes and gender-expansive styles. Leftover items were donated to local community groups.

Remake and REWEARWOLF shared sustainable fashion resources and easy resale tools, and volunteers kept the flow moving so everyone found treasures. Attendees left with new-to-them finds, new friends, and the lightness of giving items a second life.


Clothing Swap with Decentered Arts x Remake x REWEARWOLF

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio (1175 Folsom St) will host Changing Faces: Exploring the Portrait, a solo exhibition and artist talk by Pablo Moisés Ruiz Arroyo (aka Raiz). From 6:00–10:00 PM the studio will fill with figurative work, live music, and the warm chatter of people gathered to witness a painter’s conversation with identity.

Pablo will introduce the collection and share stories from his life — growing up in La Paz, migrating overland to California while supporting himself with murals and street art, and traveling the world painting public works. His portraits, the artist will explain, began with a simple question: Who is this? — and became explorations of shifting selves, hidden self-portraits, and the changing spirits he met along the way.

Black Hole Harvest will provide a live soundtrack, a textured score that mirrors Pablo’s blend of creation and collapse—music that underscored his mural work across continents. Light refreshments will be served, and guests will have a chance to ask questions, linger among the paintings, and take home prints or original pieces where available.

Pablo’s community work — from Precita Eyes to Mission Cultural Center — will be woven into the evening’s stories, reminding attendees that his art aims to beautify and belong to the neighborhoods it inhabits. Come for the paintings, stay for the tales: a night of portraiture, memory, and the migrant’s eye on the world.

Community Yoga Class w/ Gabi Gazzola 

Litquake, in collaboration with Decentered Arts, convened a luminous night at the Mission’s historic Victoria Theater. Patricia Smith opened with her invocation—“Dear ferocious dreamer… dear listener with the whole of your covetous heart”—and the room tilted into a shared present as Mia Ayumi Malhotra, Achy Obejas, Matthew Zapruder, and Gabriel Cortez delivered fierce, tender sets that honored language and community.

Doors had opened at 6:45pm and the house filled with neighbors, writers, and lovers of verse; admission was offered on a flexible, pay-what-you-can basis and walk-ups were welcomed when space allowed. After the readings, Decentered Arts hosted a bustling photobooth where pro photographer Michelle Castillo took free creative headshots for poets and attendees.

Poets were also invited to participate in the Pulse of Poetry in the Bay Area coffee-table project—an archival collaboration that promised to preserve the night’s voices. The evening folded into late-night conversation and new connections, a clear testament to the resilient, generative pulse of the Bay Area poetry community.


Dear Ferocious Dreamer: A Festival Finale in Verse

Litquake invited guests to join poets Mia Ayumi Malhotra, Achy Obejas, Matthew Zapruder, and Gabriel Cortez in bearing witness to the beauty and resiliency of our words and community at the Mission’s historic Victoria Theater.

Hosted by Liz Cahill and Jessica Kie McCallum, the event featured readings by **Mary Graves**, **Carl Weiner**, **Daphne Gottlieb**, and **Barbara Handler**, each offering distinct reflections on memory, family, love and personal growth.

After the readings, **Spandan Rath**, a classically trained tabla artist, filled the room with rhythm and warmth, bridging generations through sound before the night transitioned into the open mic. Guests shared original poems and short pieces under the guidance of the Decentered Arts hosts, closing the evening with conversation, snacks, and gratitude.

Thriving Together: AI Tools for Creative Community Success

On September 30, 2025, Decentered Arts Studio came alive with creative energy as artists, makers, and entrepreneurs gathered for Thriving Together, an immersive workshop exploring how simple AI tools could transform their creative practices.

Led by creative technologist Lem Canady and educator-performer Joon Kim, the evening wove together art and innovation, showing participants how mobile-first AI tools could automate marketing tasks—writing captions, designing posts, even running ads—so they could focus on what they loved most: creating.

Through hands-on demos and guided practice, attendees discovered how these apps could act as personal marketing teams in their pockets. Conversations sparked about reclaiming time, growing audiences, and building thriving creative communities without needing any tech background.

More than just a tech tutorial, the workshop became a celebration of collaboration and possibility—where artists learned to harness new tools not to replace their creativity, but to amplify it.

On September 29th, Decentered Studio came alive to celebrate the debut of Jessica Kie McCallum’s poetry collection, _Yang Sayang_. Friends, family, and community members gathered for an evening of art, poetry, and conversation in honor of this landmark publication from Decentered Press.
The evening opened with live music by Nic Hampton—who also designed the book’s striking cover—setting the tone for what followed. A lineup of powerful poetry readings by Connie Lin, Lilly Shi, and Lorrie Change brought their unique voices to the stage before the spotlight shifted to Jess, who shared selections from _Yang Sayang_.
The program continued with a lively Q&A featuring members of the publishing team—Rhea Joseph, Liz Cahill, and Ben Draffin—who discussed the book’s journey to publication. The night closed with a book signing, where attendees had the chance to connect with Jess personally and leave with signed copies of _Yang Sayang_.

Guests explored artwork by Alvar Jacomet, swayed to live music by Tasha Malan, and danced into the night with a DJ set from Maryzelle. The evening marked the beginning of a new creative home for artists and community gatherings in San Francisco.

On an evening in mid-August the Phoenix Hotel hosted our 19th Pooslide Poets. 

Guests came dressed in their best "Walk of Shame"
Think: disheveled glam, club top and sweatpants, slip dress and sneakers, messy bun, one earring, sunglasses indoors, flannel over sequins, heels with gym shorts, trench coat over pajamas, yesterday’s makeup, wet hair, hoodie and mini skirt, neon with fur, lingerie as outerwear, suit pants no shirt, oversized blazer and bare legs, socks and sandals, bedhead and smudged eyeliner, crocs with fishnets, morning-after eyes, last night’s outfit reimagined, regret couture, mix & match: satin, flannel, mesh, leather, denim, silk, whatever survived the night

Decentered Arts, together with Ruth's Table, Community Living Campaign, Adobe Books, and Litquake's Elder Project, hosted this inspirational event. It featured writers from the Community Living Campaign Writing Program, the Elder Project workshops, local writers across a wide age range, and community members who joined in. Limited Open Mic time was available for pieces under three minutes.

The gathering was free and potluck-style. Guests brought food to share, beverages were provided, and each month a delectable culinary creation by Amirali Mir was offered as a generous contribution to the potluck.

Visitor guidelines stated that face masks were optional.
Ruth’s Table gallery and the adjacent green space were wheelchair accessible.
ASL interpretation was available upon request with 72-hour notice.

Registration was free and open to all. Donations were welcomed to support the program.

Think: Gatsby glitz and red lips, swaying fringe and beaded silhouettes, vintage waistlines, feathered headpieces, drop-waist dresses with chunky heels, velvet suits and pocket watches, fringe skirts with platform sandals, powdered cheeks and dramatic liner, sequined shawls over thrifted coats, pearl chokers with leather jackets — mix & match: satin, fringe, beading, velvet, tulle, sequins, lace, denim, whatever felt glamorous and nostalgic

Sweet Beginnings: Poetreats Launch Party

On June 12, a warm and whimsical evening unfolded as friends gathered to celebrate the launch of Poetreats — a dream project by Anna that paired artisanal cookies with audio poetry for a nourishing, multi-sensory experience.

Born from a desire to combine somatic practice with art, food, and joy, Poetreats blossomed over six months into a celebration of mindfulness and community.

Guests arrived to the scent of fresh cookies and the sound of laughter before settling in for poetry readings by Shiv Srivastava, Rhea Joseph, and the event’s first Featured Poet, Savinay Nangalia.

The evening was cozy, heartfelt, and delicious — a true sweet beginning.

Cookies met poetry in a multisensory feast of sweetness, softness, and spirit. Guests savored verses with every bite.

Art Exhibit: The Journey 'Home'
Friday, June 6

Decentered Arts and Uzay Gallery presented The Journey 'Home', a powerful solo exhibition by Maya (Maryam) Tohidi. Marking the final show at Uzay Gallery before losing its long-held space, the evening served as both a celebration and a farewell.

Tohidi’s work reflected a deeply personal exploration of displacement and belonging—tracing her journey from childhood in Iran, immigration to Canada, the closure of her San Francisco home, and the ongoing search for new roots. Mixed-media works, layered with personal writings, poetry, and objects, combined English and Farsi text with Persian rug motifs—sometimes used to obscure pain, sometimes to reweave new narratives of hope.

Constructed from home-improvement materials and crafted both in-studio and during a residency at Uzay, the pieces embodied labor, transformation, and resilience. They honored cultural tradition while embracing the instability and beauty of evolving identity.

The night was scored by DJ Rev. Hooman, who filled the gallery with mystical sounds—melodic house, deep rhythms, and tribal beats shaped by Middle Eastern and Latin influences.

The event marked both an ending and a beginning: a farewell to Uzay’s physical space, and a symbolic leap toward future definitions of "home."
