For the August Songwriter group workshop, we’re featuring a collaborative, interactive discussion about lyric writing and process! We’ll look at storytelling and literary devices used in today’s popular music and write some lyrics of our own with guided prompts and thought starters.

Katiee is a singer-songwriter based on SF. She has been writing forever and songwriting for the past year. Songwriting has become a tool for her to express vulnerability, understand insecurities, and share relatable experiences through art. Some of her favorite artists are Alanis Morrissette, Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Thee Stallion… too many more to name.

All songwriters group events are hosted by Decentered Arts.

Join us for a hobby hang. Come use your hands and get crafty. We'll have plenty of supplies but feel free to bring your own as well. This event we are doing felting! Needle (poke) felting or sew felting of small animals, plants, food, keychains, etc. Will provide materials but feel free to bring felt, needles, beads, sewing kit, accessories etc

On a SOMA Nights evening, Decentered Arts and Heisei Ko welcomed the community into Monogatari (Fairy Tale), an immersive celebration of Japanese avant-garde fashion, culture, and artistic expression.

Guests stepped into a thoughtfully curated atmosphere where garments, music, food, and conversation came together to tell a story inspired by Japanese aesthetics and tradition. Throughout the evening, Heisei Ko shared the ideas and creative process behind the work during an artist talk, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the exhibition and its inspirations.

Music by SOULSTAR accompanied the gathering, while Japanese-inspired snacks and drinks encouraged guests to linger, connect, and experience the event as both a cultural celebration and an artistic exchange.

As SOMA Nights unfolded beyond the studio, Monogatari became an intimate space where fashion, storytelling, music, and community came together for an evening of creativity and cultural appreciation.

Peanut Butter Jams 

On a Sunday afternoon at Decentered Studio, participants gathered for a Group Movement Lab dedicated to playful experimentation and collective improvisation.

The session began with guided movement explorations, inviting the group to observe and draw inspiration from the natural world—imagining the coordinated movements of ants, birds, and fish, while reinterpreting ideas inspired by performance and everyday life.

As the workshop unfolded, participants proposed their own rules and creative prompts, transforming the studio into a collaborative space where movement emerged through curiosity, shared decision-making, and spontaneous play.

Together, the group explored how simple ideas could evolve into collective choreography, celebrating imagination, connection, and the joy of creating movement as a community.

Group Movement Lab explored improvisation, collective choreography, playful experimentation, and creative collaboration through guided movement and shared imagination at Decentered Studio.

On a midsummer evening, Saint Joseph’s Arts Society welcomed another luminous edition of Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts alongside curators Char Lacsina, Rhea Joseph, and Liz Cahill. Inside the breathtaking historic venue founded by Ken Fulk, poetry, music, dance, and fashion came together for a celebration of artistic expression and community.

Guests arrived transformed for the evening’s "Birds Take Flight" dress code, filling the space with feathers, wings, sculptural headpieces, shimmering mirror work, vibrant colors, flowing capes, and imaginative silhouettes inspired by birds and midsummer magic.

The evening featured a captivating musical performance by Girl Swallows Nightingale ( <https://www.girlswallowsnightingale.com/> ), whose ethereal sound set the tone for the gathering.

Poets Genny Lim, San Francisco’s Poet Laureate, Ingrid Keir, Vida, Jonathan Siegel, Angel, Jennifer Barone, Nikki Love, Reno, and Charlie Getter each took the stage, sharing work that moved between reflection, joy, vulnerability, and celebration.

Movement artists Francis Eric Aquino and Mindy Ng brought the poetry into motion through expressive dance performances that added another layer of storytelling to the evening.

As the night unfolded beneath the soaring halls of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society, artists and guests alike gathered in conversation, performance, and celebration, creating another memorable chapter in the ongoing story of Poolside Poets.

Poolside Poets returned with bird-inspired fashion, featuring Girl Swallows Nightingale, Bay Area poets, dancers, and a vibrant community celebration.

On a Monday evening at Decentered Studio, the Songwriters Group gathered for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of shaping sound.

Led by CJ, the session introduced participants to the fundamentals of audio equalization (EQ) and compression through live demonstrations and real song examples. As tracks evolved in real time, the group discovered how subtle adjustments could transform individual recordings into balanced, cohesive mixes.

The workshop also explored the creative use of sound effects, showing how thoughtful sound design can deepen the character and atmosphere of a recording. Projected demonstrations allowed everyone to hear each change as it happened, making the technical process approachable for songwriters of every experience level.

By the end of the evening, participants left with a stronger understanding of the tools behind music production and new ways of listening to the songs they create.

On a Sunday evening, Decentered Studio welcomed the first edition of Peanut Butter Jams, launching a new weekly gathering dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and community.

Singers, dancers, poets, and performers came together to share their work in an open, welcoming space where every contribution was encouraged. Throughout the evening, the studio filled with music, movement, spoken word, and spontaneous moments of artistic exchange as new and familiar faces connected through performance.

The inaugural gathering marked the beginning of a new summer tradition, establishing Peanut Butter Jams as a place where artists of all disciplines could meet, experiment, and celebrate creativity together each week.

On a sunny Saturday in West SoMa, Decentered Arts joined the One City Day Volunteer Extravaganza for a day of creativity, service, and neighborhood celebration.

At Victoria Manalo Draves Park, community members of all ages came together to help build One City Future, a collaborative interactive artwork shaped by many hands and shared imagination. Throughout the day, participants contributed to the evolving piece while connecting through hands-on art and conversation.

The celebration extended beyond the artwork, with neighborhood beautification efforts, live music, and a community barbecue bringing people together in the park. Families, friends, artists, and volunteers gathered to celebrate the power of collective action, transforming a day of service into a joyful expression of community and hope for the future.



One City Day Volunteer Extravaganza 

Decentered Arts joined One City Day, creating collaborative public art while celebrating neighborhood beautification, live music, community, and collective creativity.


On an evening at Decentered Studio, Decentered Arts celebrated the opening of Chloe King’s solo exhibition, welcoming the community for the first look at her recent body of work.

Guests gathered to experience an evening of art, conversation, and connection, exploring Chloe’s interdisciplinary practice spanning painting and photography. During the artist talk, Chloe shared insights into her creative process and the ideas that informed the exhibition, inviting visitors into the world behind the work.

Throughout the evening, DJ JAAG provided the soundtrack as guests enjoyed light refreshments, lingered with the artwork, and connected with one another in the studio’s warm, intimate atmosphere.

The opening reception marked the beginning of Chloe King’s exhibition, launching an ongoing showcase of her work and celebrating another season of contemporary art and community at Decentered Arts.

On a cozy Monday evening at Decentered Studio, Hah Holton led a Craft n' Chill session that invited the community to slow down, create, and connect.

Friends gathered around shared tables as art supplies filled the studio and light-colored garments became blank canvases for personal expression. Guided by Hah’s creative practice, participants painted, experimented, and transformed everyday clothing into one-of-a-kind wearable artworks.

With dinner shared from the kitchenette, shoes left at the door, and conversation flowing as freely as the paint, the evening unfolded as a warm celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and community.

Queer Jazz Jams

Queer Jazz Jam at Decentered Studio—beginner lesson, open jam, and Pride Month celebration welcoming singers, dancers, poets, and musicians.

On a lively SOMA Nights evening, Decentered Studio transformed into a welcoming space for community exchange as Decentered Arts hosted a clothing swap in partnership with Roboro and the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop.

The studio quickly filled with racks of clothing, accessories, and thoughtfully shared treasures. Some guests arrived with garments to pass along, while others simply came to browse, discovering new favorites regardless of whether they had brought anything themselves. The spirit of the evening was simple: take what you need, give what you can.

Beyond the swap, the gathering celebrated sustainability, generosity, and community care. By keeping clothing in circulation, participants gave pre-loved items a second life while reducing textile waste and supporting a more circular approach to fashion.

As the evening came to a close, any unclaimed clothing found a new purpose through donation to Youth With A Mission (YWAM), extending the event’s impact beyond the studio. Together, the clothing swap became more than an exchange of garments—it became a celebration of sharing, connection, and the belief that small acts of generosity can strengthen a creative community.

Community clothing swap at Decentered Studio celebrated sustainable fashion, shared generosity, and connection through Roboro and Discovery Shop partnerships.

On a Sunday afternoon at Decentered Arts Studio, the Physical Storytelling series welcomed movement artist and choreographer Moscelyne ParkeHarrison for a workshop exploring the rich terrain between language and embodiment.

Participants arrived carrying fragments of text that inspired them—poems, song lyrics, messages, articles, and personal writings. Through guided movement practice, they began to explore how words could live beyond the page, transforming language into gesture, rhythm, expression, and physical presence.

The workshop unfolded as an investigation into the relationship between text and movement. Participants remixed their chosen materials, experimented with literal and abstract interpretations, and discovered new ways of communicating through the body. Under Moscelyne’s guidance, the group explored how meaning shifts when language is embodied rather than spoken.

Throughout the afternoon, beginners and experienced movers alike shared discoveries, questions, and creative experiments. What emerged was a playful exchange between writing and movement—one where stories, emotions, and ideas could be felt as much as understood.

Following the workshop, many participants stayed to connect, reflect, and continue conversations sparked by the day’s exploration, extending the spirit of curiosity and community that defines the Physical Storytelling series at Decentered Arts.

Flowers gathered from neighborhood walks, fragrant tea, and other organic materials became unexpected artistic tools as participants painted, experimented, and transformed everyday elements into expressive works of art. Many arrived carrying fresh blooms they had collected throughout the city, adding personal stories and seasonal color to the creative process.

Around the studio, others explored card making, painting, knitting, sewing, tarot, embossing, and a wide range of handmade practices, filling the space with conversation, curiosity, and shared inspiration. With supplies spread across the tables and creativity flowing freely, the evening unfolded as a gentle celebration of making together.

As always, the shoes-off studio welcomed guests to settle in, share a meal or homemade dish, and enjoy the warmth of community alongside art.

Craft n' Chill with Maya Tohidi

Maya led a mixed media workshop using flowers, tea, and natural materials, inspiring creativity, craft, and community at Decentered Studio.

On a Monday evening at Decentered Studio, songwriters gathered for the return of one of the community’s favorite traditions: Songwriter Movie Night.

With snacks shared around the room and notebooks close at hand, participants settled in to watch a MasterClass by St. Vincent, exploring creativity, songwriting, and the artistic process. The evening offered a chance to learn from an acclaimed musician while reflecting on each person’s own creative practice.

As ideas sparked and conversations unfolded, the gathering became more than a screening—it became a space for inspiration, connection, and creative exchange among songwriters at every stage of their journey.

Part of Decentered Arts’ ongoing Songwriters Group, the event welcomed experienced musicians and first-time writers alike, continuing the community's commitment to making creative spaces accessible, supportive, and free for all.

Craft n' Chill 

On an afternoon at Decentered Studio, the community gathered to celebrate original music and creative expression through a live showcase of local songwriters.

One by one, artists took the stage, sharing songs shaped by personal stories, experimentation, and craft. The lineup featured performances by Anoah Wang, Katie, Liliko, Rishi, Christian Wagner, Okvlt no1z3, Alex Santana, and Alexinwaves, each bringing their own voice and musical perspective to the room.

Between melodies and moments of connection, special guest Lorrie Chang offered poetry that added another layer of reflection and storytelling to the afternoon.

Together, the performances created an intimate gathering where music and poetry intertwined, celebrating the creativity, and community that continue to thrive at Decentered Studio.



Songwriters Showcase 

Community songwriters shared original music at Decentered Studio, featuring live performances, poetry by Lorrie Chang, and creative connection.

On the evening of June 28, 2026, during SOMA Nights, Decentered Arts presented the recent works of Hah Holton for her solo exhibition at Decentered Arts Studio.

As the neighborhood block party unfolded outside, guests gathered inside the studio for an intimate evening of art, music, and collaboration. The exhibition featured an artist talk from HAH, alongside light refreshments, live music, and the warm, cozy atmosphere that carried through the night.

The space came alive through collaborations with Nikinga, JACX, and Bazura, weaving fashion, texture, and installation into the exhibition environment.

Throughout the evening, Niya Orchid provided the soundtrack while Pedro Valiante layered live saxophone through the room. A performance by Naia Faiyah added another dimension to the gathering, transforming the exhibition into a fluid, multidisciplinary celebration of art and community.

Songwriters Group SongShare

On a spring evening in May, Decentered Arts and Lunchbox Collective transformed KOHO Creative Hub into a living, breathing garden for The Eden Gallery.

Guests stepped into a space where art and fashion intertwined with nature--an immersive celebration of the Earth’s beauty and the deep, reciprocal relationship between people and planet. The evening began with exploration: wandering through works by local artists, each piece reflecting themes of resilience, rebirth, and the cycles that shape both nature and human experience.

As the night unfolded, the gallery shifted into motion. At 7:30pm, the fashion show bloomed--collections by J. Ehren, Anika Awasthi, JAWATREE, and others moved through the space like living extensions of the earth itself. Textures, tones, and silhouettes echoed organic forms, inviting guests to witness fashion as a language of ecology and self-expression.

Throughout the evening, community remained at the center--guests arrived as they were, or dressed in their own interpretations of Eden, sharing conversation, inspiration, and presence. Homemade treats by Rayna added another layer of warmth, nourishing both body and spirit.

For a few hours, in the heart of Japantown, Eden came alive--not as a distant myth, but as something created together through art, care, and connection.

Elaine Ryan is a musician and former sync agent who has made her living in music for over fifteen years. Her songs have been featured in ads and on TV shows airing on NBC and Amazon. She is the founder of Unicorn Sync, where she helped a growing network of indie artists land placements in film and television. Elaine is the author of Living a Music-Centered Life: A Guide to Balance, Fulfillment and Paying the Bills, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, her journal, and her guitar.

Gen Blend May 2026

Cole Phoenix Skaggs took over this session of Craft n’ Chill, leading a meditative grounding exercise before teaching participants some of his signature wood grain techniques.

Guests gathered to use their hands, get crafty, and create together. Supplies were provided, though many also brought their own materials to work with.

Craft n’ Chill, hosted every first and third Monday by Decentered Arts, continued its tradition of offering a cozy, community-centered creative space with a suggested $10 donation and no one turned away for lack of funds.

Hosted in a shoes-off venue, the evening also invited guests to share food, dinner, and dishes from the studio kitchenette while spending time together in relaxed creative community.


Craft n' Chill - Mindful Drawing with Cole 

Cole Phoenix Skaggs led Craft n’ Chill with meditation, wood grain painting, creative making, shared food, and cozy community connection.

Guests gathered for Poetry Springs at Alchemy, a one-of-a-kind immersive experience where poetry and music met the ritual of relaxation. 🧘‍♀️🎵

Decentered Arts curated the entire evening with live performances—a poet reading inside the social sauna every 30 minutes, while the beautiful sounds of a violinist echoed through the garden. The night unfolded as a magical community experience centered on rest, creativity, and connection.

Hosted at Alchemy Springs, guests explored one of San Francisco’s newest social spa oases. The outdoor sauna garden featured a 40-person communal sauna with immersive sound and lighting, cold plunges, a fire pit, thermal benches, and open-air shower walls designed by award-winning architect Olle Lundberg.

On an evening in late April Saint Joseph's Art Society hosted another luminous edition of Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts alongside curators Rhea Joseph and Liz Cahill. In this breathtaking historic venue - founded by Ken Fulk - poetry, music, dance, and fashion gathered once again for an evening celebrating Earth Day through performance and community.

Guests arrived dressed in their best “Elemental.”

Think: flowing water-blue gowns, airy sheer capes catching invisible winds, flame-toned silks and glowing reds, mossy greens and earth textures, nature prints, ocean shimmer, volcanic glamour, forest mysticism - mix & match: linen, chiffon, cotton, velvet, recycled fabrics, thrifted treasures, upcycled pieces honoring the beauty of the planet.

Featured Poets: Jesse Nathan, C. Anne Gardner, and more poets joined the lineup.

Throughout the evening, more artists appeared as the soaring halls of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society filled with poetry, music, movement, and celebration in honor of the elements and the living world around us.

The event created a collaborative environment with interactive activities, beverages, and opportunities to connect with local arts-focused organizations. It was a vibrant night of creativity, collaboration, and community.

What is music therapy, and how does it actually work? In this 1-hour introductory talk, board-certified music therapist Sophia Shu Wang will explore how music can be used therapeutically to support emotional expression, stress reduction, insight, and healing. Drawing from over a decade of clinical work and her training in Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), Sophia will offer an accessible introduction to the field and help attendees understand the difference between everyday music listening and music therapy with a trained professional. Ideal for anyone curious about music, consciousness, and mental health.

Theses events will take place 2nd and 4th Mondays at Decentered Studio.


Songwriters Group Workshop w/ Sophia Shu Wang 

Intro to music therapy with Sophia Shu Wang - exploring healing, emotional expression, and how therapeutic music differs from everyday listening.

On the evening of April 11, 2026, the halls of the African American Art & Culture Complex transformed into a vibrant gathering of fashion, culture, and community for If I Grow Up, a fashion show presented by ÉCLAIRÉS.

Guests arrived to an immersive West African-inspired market experience where conversation, craft, and rhythm filled the space. A legendary oil painter shared their work, a local sculptor and upcycle artist displayed transformed materials, and the aroma of halal Caribbean fusion food moved through the room. Nearby, a live drum circle pulsed through the venue, setting the tempo for the night and welcoming everyone into the experience.

Before the runway began, visitors wandered through the marketplace of makers - connecting with artists, exploring handmade pieces, and catching early glimpses of the newest ÉCLAIRÉS collection.

Then, at 7:30 PM, the show began.

If I Grow Up unfolded as a visual journey through consciousness, exploring the tension between individuality and the identities society places upon us. Each look on the runway carried part of that story, blending Afro-toned palettes and design language with echoes of both vintage and contemporary streetwear. The garments moved between past and future, heritage and reinvention.

At its core, the evening reflected the philosophy behind ÉCLAIRÉS - “the Enlightened Ones.” Through clothing, connection, and shared cultural space, the brand invited its community to reflect on who we are, who we become, and how creativity can illuminate the path between the two.

For one evening inside the African American Art & Culture Complex, fashion became more than style - it became story, memory, and possibility.

Super Extra Fancy, Fancy Art Show 

Cole Skaggs’ Fancy Art Show features an artist talk, DJ LaPlayah, drawings inspired by nature, refreshments, and cozy community vibes.

On the evening of April 2, 2026, poetry glowed softly beneath candlelight inside the Exploratorium, as Decentered Arts presented Decentered Poetry Lounge: After Dark - Immersed in Verse.

Set within the museum’s beloved Exploratorium After Dark, the evening transformed part of the Exploratorium into a cozy oasis of words, rhythm, and reflection. Surrounded by interactive exhibits exploring science, perception, and art, guests stepped into a quieter corner of the night-one filled with poetry.

Bay Area poets took the stage to share their work, while soft candlelight, ambient visuals, and the hum of creative energy invited visitors to slow down and listen. The lounge also opened space for participation: guests sat down to write, shared their own lines, or simply let the poetry carry them through the evening.

Nearby, the immersive installation The Green Fairy offered a playful ritual-guests could swap a poem for a sip of a nonalcoholic cocktail, turning creativity itself into currency.

Throughout the night, a freestyle poetry workshop welcomed both seasoned writers and first-time poets to experiment with language and voice. Whether arriving to listen, write, or simply vibe, the lounge offered a space where curiosity, imagination, and community met.

For one Thursday night, inside the Exploratorium’s world of experiments and discovery, poetry became its own kind of exploration-an invitation to romanticize life, line by line.

Decentered Poetry Lounge at the Exploratorium featured candlelit readings, interactive visuals, freestyle workshops, and poems traded for sips at the Green Fairy.

Gen Blend April 2026 

The ÉCLAIRÉS Market Quest was a fashion pop-up experience centered on gathering people to reconnect with themselves through fruit, clothing, and community.

For the second Market Quest, guests experienced homemade food by Amiyah Shields, fresh juice prepared by Joseph, a hands-on sewing station with Jawa, and a workshop on home sewing machine techniques led by ÉCLAIRÉS designer Cheick. Limited pieces from the new collection were made available for pre-order.

Amiyah prepared home-cooked meals through her business Shecooksafreakinglot, known for flavorful meal prep, catering, and individual plates.

The event plate featured Honey Cajun Wings with Butter Roasted Corn.

Event entry was $20 via Venmo or cash at the door and included one juice token, access to Cheick’s sewing workshop, and an early look at the latest ÉCLAIRÉS collection.

Proceeds from the event went toward the ÉCLAIRÉS Fashion Show on April 11, with a portion donated to Noisebridge.

Noisebridge remained open to the public, and the event followed a NTAFLOF (No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds) model.

Guests gathered to explore, connect, and experience what the ÉCLAIRÉS Market Quest had to offer.


ÉCLAIRÉS MARKET QUEST 

Éclairés Market Quest was a fashion pop-up featuring food, juice, sewing workshops, and an exclusive collection preview, gathering community through creativity, craft, and connection.

On an evening in mid-March Saint Joseph's Art Society hosted the return of Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts alongside curators Baruch Porras Hernandez, Rhea Joseph, and Liz Cahill. In this breathtaking historic venue—founded by Ken Fulk—poetry, music, dance, and fashion unfolded together in a dreamy evening of performance and community.

Guests arrived dressed in their best “Forbidden Fruit.”

Think: mysterious masquerade, red velvet and black lace, dark glamour and desirable anonymity, cherry-printed dresses and strawberry jumpsuits, masks, silk gloves, lush crimson tones, leafy greens, temptation couture, decadent textures—mix & match: satin, lace, velvet, mesh, silk, whatever felt deliciously forbidden.

The evening also featured the debut of the Forbidden Words Quilt Project, led by Lorraine Woodruff-Long and Trisha Hickey. This international community quilt highlighted 384 words and phrases banned or scrubbed from U.S. government communications, as identified by PEN America. Created by more than 200 contributors across every U.S. state and six countries, the quilt transformed censorship into collective storytelling through fabric and thread.

More artists joined throughout the night as the soaring halls of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society filled with poetry, music, movement, and celebration.


Poolside Poets returned on March 18 at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society—featuring poetry, music, dance, the debut of the Forbidden Words Quilt, and a Forbidden Fruit masquerade.

This session was led by Decentered Studio’s current artist, Liam Clickenger. He led a photography workshop using smartphones 🤳

Participants gathered to get creative, learn new skills, and level up their photography practice.

Craft n' Chill - Phone Photography Workshop

Smartphone photography workshop with artist Liam Clickenger—participants learned creative techniques, sharpened observation, and explored everyday storytelling through their phone cameras.

On the afternoon of March 14, 2026, North Beach transformed into a surreal wedding procession during the beloved Brides of March. Among the many stops along the route, The Golden Sardine hosted a particularly poetic celebration.

For a brief, magical window between 4:00 and 5:30 PM, the bar became a chapel of verse. Guests arrived dressed in bridal whites and playful wedding attire-lace veils, thrifted gowns, satin gloves, bouquets tucked under arms, tiaras slightly askew. Some wore vintage wedding dresses, others layered veils over everyday clothes, all joining the whimsical tradition of becoming brides for the day.

The reading gathered a radiant lineup of poets-each a “Bride of Poetry.” Voices rose one by one from the bridal party: Betsy Alma Ramazzini, Connie Lin, Elena Pinnen, Eyra Dordi, Katherine Okpara, Liz Cahill, Rhea Joseph, and Spinelli-each offering poems that moved between humor, tenderness, longing, and celebration.

The ceremony of words was accompanied by the “Bride of Song,” Anne‑Marie Russo, whose voice filled the room with music that wove gently between the readings, turning the gathering into something between a performance and a communal toast.

For that hour and a half, the Golden Sardine held a joyful congregation of poets, singers, and wandering brides from the streets of North Beach. Strangers became witnesses, laughter mingled with lyric lines, and the room glowed with the playful spirit of a wedding where everyone-performer or passerby-was welcome to join the bridal party.

**About the Show:**

Over more than two decades, Liam made images across shifting contexts and ways of working.

In Practice was a retrospective exhibition that brought together small groupings of that work—images operating at different scales and distances, from aerial landscapes to street-level documentary projects. Some were made in motion. Others were created slowly. Some had been exhibited before, while others had remained quietly in the archive.

Many of the pieces in the exhibition were one-of-one prints—artifacts of specific moments, materials, and processes that no longer existed in quite the same way. Rather than editions designed for repetition, they were singular objects shaped by circumstance, access, and instinct.

Seen together, the work formed points of contact between observation and intimacy, public life and private attention, and between places, people, and moments that might not otherwise meet.

Songwriters Group turned 1! We gathered for an evening of live music, drinks, snacks, and community, featuring a stellar lineup of songwriters performing live.

This session was led by Decentered Studio’s current artist, Tim Guan, who guided fun, vegetable-themed crafts 🥬

Guests used their hands and got crafty. Plenty of supplies were available, and participants also brought their own materials.

Hosted in a shoes-off venue, the studio’s kitchenette welcomed shared dinners and dishes throughout the gathering.



Craft n' Chill - Vegetable Art with Tim

Artist Tim Guan led veggie-themed crafts—guests brought creativity, shared food, and gathered barefoot in our cozy studio space.

Decentered Studio -then newly opened as a community arts space in SOMA—welcomed people in for a generous, easygoing clothing swap in partnership with the American Cancer Society and Youth With A Mission.

Rather than a strict one-to-one exchange, the swap unfolded in a spirit of abundance. Some guests arrived with bags of clothes to pass on, others came empty-handed, and everyone was invited to browse freely and take what they needed. Tables filled with a wide mix of garments spanning bodies and gender expressions, with a strong femme presence and, as always, something for just about everyone.

Beyond clothing, attendees shared accessories, makeup, skincare, and thoughtfully chosen household items, all offered with care and intention. By the end of the day, unclaimed items were gathered and donated to Youth With A Mission, extending the circle of giving beyond the room.

The event reflected Decentered Arts’ mission as an artist-led 501(c)(3): building community through shared creative and mutual-aid practices.


Clothing Swap Decentered x American Cancer Society 

A community clothing swap at Decentered Studio brought people together to share resources freely - items or not - while supporting partners and one another.

On Saturday, February 7, Decentered Arts opened the doors of Decentered Studio for Medium, the first solo exhibition by San Francisco–based painter Tim Guan—a quiet, thoughtful evening devoted to attention, presence, and what it means to be embodied in a hyper-digital world.

As guests arrived, the studio filled with warm conversation, soft light, and the low hum of anticipation. Tim welcomed the room with an artist talk, sharing how painting—slow, deliberate, and demanding—has become his way of resisting the constant pull of screens. Working figuratively in oil, he spoke about observation as a radical act, one that helps preserve his humanity amid the speed and noise of contemporary life. His works, drawn from the last year and a half, invited viewers to pause and sit with images shaped by the tension between embodiment and disembodiment in the information age.

Throughout the evening, live music from Black Hole Harvest drifted through the space, weaving sound into the visual experience and deepening the sense of reflection. With light refreshments in hand, visitors moved from painting to painting, lingering with questions Tim’s practice holds close: What has our disembodied living done to us? And what, still, is worth noticing, preserving, and honoring about our physical existence?

Medium continued at Decentered Studio throughout February, offering time and space to return, look again, and stay with these questions. As hosts, Decentered Arts was grateful to hold space for Tim’s debut solo show—an evening and a month rooted in curiosity, slowness, and shared presence.

A $10 suggested donation supported the music and photography, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Craft n’ Chill – Unplug and Play Takeover

Guests used their hands and got crafty at this free bi-weekly hang. Some supplies were provided, or participants brought their own—every project was welcome, or folks simply came to chill. People painted their nails, played Nintendo Switch, read books, started new projects, or enjoyed the vibe together. All hangs were welcomed, and guest artists occasionally dropped in to lead casual, hands-on workshops.

Decentered Studio was a shoes-off venue with a small kitchenette, and guests brought dinner or dishes to share. Those interested in co-hosting or volunteering were invited to reach out to Rhea at decentered dot org.

On an evening in mid-January, Saint Joseph’s Arts Society hosted Poolside Poets, presented by Decentered Arts.

Guests arrived dressed in their best “Resort Wear,” leaning into White Lotus fantasy and poolside glamour — flowing whites and tropical prints, silk sarongs and linen suits, seashell jewelry, breezy dresses, relaxed tailoring, and playful swimwear layered with elegance. Linen, silk, cotton, raffia, shells, and foliage mixed freely, creating a vacation-ready, indulgent atmosphere.

The evening featured poetry from Baruch Porras Hernandez, Giovanna Lomanto, Arthur Kao, Drew Sage, Tucker Bryant, and additional voices that joined throughout the night.

Music was provided by Hugo de la Lune, whose live set carried the room between readings.

Dancers Erica Knox and Tobias Echeverria added movement and visual poetry, weaving through the space and completing the lush, poolside dream.

Songwriters gathered at Decentered Studio for a free workshop led by Ariel O of The Fancy Monkeys, open to all.

Beginning January 10, 2026, Decentered Arts opened the doors of Decentered Studio to _MagusFusion: Energy Bodies_, a solo exhibition by San Francisco–based artist Nikolas Larson, on view through January 31.

Larson—known locally for his vibrant Mission District chalk murals under the name _chalkvisions_—brings his expansive visual language indoors. Working with chalk, ink, and paint, his pieces move between art nouveau, sacred geometry, and mythic symbolism, drawing from mysticism, futurism, fashion, and science fiction. Each work feels like a diagram of energy: bodies in motion, devotion rendered in line, color, and pattern.

The exhibition launched with an opening evening on January 10, featuring an artist talk by Nikolas, light refreshments, and a warm, cozy gathering at the studio. The opening night also included a live musical offering from Sherbet Collective, whose sound draws from Turkish Sufi music traditions. With oud, rebab, vocals, and percussion, their devotional, soul-stirring performance set the tone for the exhibition—ancient resonance meeting the present moment.

_MagusFusion: Energy Bodies_ now lives in the studio throughout the month, inviting visitors to return, linger, and witness the evolving dialogue between art, energy, and community. A $10 suggested donation supports the artists and musicians, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Gen Blend January 2026

On New Year’s Eve, Decentered Studio transformed into a glowing, two-floor house party as Decentered Arts joined forces with Basil House and Gather SF to welcome 2026 together.

Guests arrived wrapped in Celestial Coze—metallics, sequins, velvet, faux fur, and cosmic shimmer—stepping into a shoes-off world that felt ethereal, warm, and ready to dance all night. Inside, three stages pulsed with live music and spontaneous jams, while a tea lounge offered calm, a squish zone invited cozy connection, and surrealist art pulled people into dreamy corners of the space.

Across the night, sets unfolded from Hugo de la Lune, Oakadelic, Jin Lee Baobei, CJ, Roziht Eve, Elijah Malik, Sincerely Nic, and Black Hole Harvest, with musicians jumping in and out as the energy shifted. Bubbly flowed at midnight, light snacks circulated, and BYOB bottles were shared among friends old and new.

Entry closed at 1am, but the celebration carried on until 4—an intimate, joyful house party built on community, music, and collective care, with ticket sales supporting the artists and the magic that made the night possible.

Craft n’ Chill invited everyone to unwind, get creative, and make handmade holiday gifts together at Decentered Studio on December 1.

Folks came to hang with us. We had hot chocolate, watched movies, and shared favorite dishes and traditions.

There was a craft corner and a puzzle corner too — a choose-your-own-adventure hang, with even some dancing.

Super casual. We even hosted a little white elephant with a $20 budget, leaning toward handmade or upcycled gifts.


Christmas Day Potluck & Hangs

We spent the Christmas together—hot chocolate, movies, shared dishes, crafts, puzzles, even dancing, and a handmade white elephant. Cozy, creative, everyone was welcome.

Participants joined the songwriting workshop led by talented songwriter, guitarist, and singer Ariel O, frontman of The Fancy Monkeys.

The session took place on December 22, 2025, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Decentered Studio. All were welcome — no experience necessary — and, as always, the event was free.


On Sunday afternoon, December 21, Decentered Arts Studio opened into a shared field of sound, imagination, and making during a Soundscape & Art Jam guided by Roziht Eve.

Roziht — a San Francisco–based Taiwanese American artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist — shaped a live, evolving soundscape as participants rested, listened, drew, wrote, and created alongside the music. Ethereal vocals, textured tones, and improvisation wove together, inviting quiet reflection and playful expression in a cozy, shoes-off space. Art supplies were available, and guests brought whatever helped them feel comfortable and inspired.

The gathering was donation-based, with all proceeds supporting Decentered Arts’ end-of-year fundraising campaign, sustaining free and accessible arts programming and the community space held in SoMa.

On December 11, Decentered Studio turned into a cozy little living room for a relaxed Movie Night. We kicked off a Harry Potter marathon with popcorn, hot chocolate, and favorite snacks guests brought along. The lights dimmed, shoes came off at the door, and everyone settled in for an easy evening of shared nostalgia and warm company. With the kitchenette open for reheating dinner or sharing dishes, the night unfolded like a community hangout disguised as a film night—an invitation to unwind together as the year wound down.
